CHAPTER ONE
I watched with pride and excitement as my sister, Cassandra threw a dagger, popping the balloon mounted on the post. I immediately stoop up, clapping my hands, causing everyone to look at me. " Sweetheart, sit down " my mom said pulling me down.
" I can't help it, she's amazing " I smile at her. She might not have been my real mother but I loved her like one. Soon enough, the competition was over. I walked over to my sister and hugged her.
" I'm so proud of you " I said.
" It's all thanks to you but I still need to improve when it comes to hand to hand combat" she smiled, I ruffled her hair and walked back over to my parents. It was nearly eight o'clock. I said my goodbyes and left the training grounds. As a head warrior I had to patrol and protect the stronghold.
I steathly walked through the factory grounds when I saw a fighter jet coming our way, it was about five miles away. I quickly grabbed my walkie-talkie and tried to communicate. " Code Red, Code Red. I've come in contact.. Hello" I spoke through it but I did not receive a response, I pressed the button once more but static was the only thing I could hear " s**t, comms are down " I cursed quickly ran through the factory, looking for any signs of life. I walked in the training grounds and shouted. " Code Red! " Everyone looked at me, fear etched on their faces, people started panicking and running out the doors. I tried to calm them down and regain order but we were going to die, I knew it and they knew it, but that didn't mean we should give up.
A man with grey hair and a beard walked onto the stage and started speaking" People, people, calm down. I know your afraid, I am too but we have been preparing for this day. The day they attacked, the day we fought back. and stood up for ourselves, for all of humanity " he raised his fist in the air and people started clapping. They formed a line and walked towards the safe room.
I awoke with a jolt. The sun was shining on my face, I looked around and saw Cassandra missing. Fear washed over me as I started running in whichever direction calling out her name. I started panicking, I had lost too many people in my life I couldn't lose her too.
" I'm here " A voice called out. It was Cassandra. I ran to her and squeezed her " I was so worried" I whispered.
" I'm sorry " she said.
." It's okay, we should get going " I said packing up our stuff. Ever since the attack, the Rippers had shown an interest in Cassie, and I knew exactly what it meant. And I wasn't going to give her to them.
As we trekked the evergreen forest I heard my sister's stomach rumble. I fished through my bag for any type of food to eat. There were two granola bars, some fruit, four bottles of water and a rabbit skewer I had saved from last night. I sighed, we needed to ration the food until we came across the next city. I couldn't let her starve though, I fished out the skewer and passed it to her. " After this were gonna have to ration, we don't know how long until the next town " I said solemnly.
She happily took it and slowly ate it, savouring the taste. We need to find food and shelter, we couldn't stay exposed for too long, I thought to myself. As we continued to walk a through the forest, not knowing which direction to go, it was dark and the only source of light was the stars and the moon. It sent a eerie yet beautiful feeling as the wind blew through my hair. A faint glowing light appeared in my peripherals, the cautiously walked towards it, hiding behind the trees as my sister hid behind me. An old cabin came into view, as relieved as a was, we couldn't be too careful.
" Stay here " I whispered. I slowly crept up to the window and peeked inside. The lights were turned on but there wasn't any signs of life, going around to the front door, I went in, it was absolutely empty. I ran back out to find my sister, I lead her inside left he cabin, rummaging for food, we found canned foods and water. I took them without hesitation.
I didn't know if the cabin was inhabited or not, but we had to keep moving.
" Cassandra, let's go " I grabbed her hand.
" huh, but why ? " she whined, I sighed.
" You know the rules "
" Yes, but we also need food and shelter, we've got food and shelter" she said. I thought it through and she did make a good point, we did need the food and shelter. I heaved another sign. " Very well, but we're leaving first thing tomorrow" she bobbed her head nodding in excitement. I showed her the bedroom she would sleep in and she happily jumped in and seconds after, sleep took her. She looked so peaceful, who wouldn't when they were sleeping on a fluffy cloud. I smiled at her as I pushed a strand of hair away from her face.
I walked back to the kitchen to get myself something to drink when I felt something on the back of my head and I was more than sure it was a g*n.
" Who are you and what are you doing here? " a gruff voice which I believe belongs to my attacker said.
" what am I doing here, what are you doing here? " I asked confidently.
" I live here, what about you? " Oookay, so someone did live here, I slowly turned around and the face I saw sent shivers down my spine, it was both out of fear and attraction.
" Albion? " I asked.
" Ingrid " he whispered as he brought his fingers up to my face and caressed it. " I thought you were dead " when he said that, I was brought out of my reverie.
" You'd like that very much wouldn't you " I said to his face, my words filled with hate and anger and..love.
