Felicia’s POV
“Congratulations, Luna. You are pregnant.”
Doctor Lora’s words hung in the air like the sweetest song I had ever heard. I sat there on the edge of the examination bed, my whole body frozen. My heart was beating so loud I could barely hear anything else.
“Are you sure?” I whispered, my voice cracking. My hands moved slowly to my stomach, as if I could already feel the tiny life growing inside me.
Doctor Lora smiled gently and nodded. “I’m very sure, Luna. You seem to be about five weeks along. We can fix a date for your first scan whenever you’re ready.”
Tears filled my eyes so fast that everything became blurry. Pregnant. After all this time, I was really pregnant.
“Thank you, Doctor,” I said, my voice shaking with joy. “Please… can you keep this to yourself? I want to be the first one to tell Markus.”
“Of course, Luna. Not a word from me,” she replied softly.
When I left her office, my legs felt weak, like I was walking on clouds. I didn’t go straight back to the palace. Instead, I walked slowly to the garden behind the clinic. The flowers were in full bloom, and the afternoon sun felt warm on my skin. I needed a moment to calm my racing heart and let the news sink in.
After three long years of marriage, I was finally pregnant!
Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. I wiped them away with the back of my hand, laughing and crying at the same time. Oh, I couldn’t wait to tell Markus. He would be so thrilled. I could already picture his face lighting up, those strong arms wrapping around me, lifting me off the ground the way he did when he was really happy.
Markus and I had been mated for three years now, but we still had no child. Because of that, the pack had been cruel to me. They whispered behind my back and gave me a nasty nickname — the Barren Luna. Some of the elders kept pushing Markus to take another mate, saying the pack needed an heir. But he always refused. He stood by me every single time.
His sister Bianca was the worst of them all. She had never liked me. From the very first day, she wanted her brother to end up with Elma, her best friend. Bianca always said I stole Markus from them. She made sure to remind me of it every chance she got, with cold looks and sharp words that cut deep.
But now… everything was going to change.
I pulled out my phone with trembling fingers and tried to call Markus. It went straight to voicemail. He must still be in that long meeting with the alphas from the neighboring packs. That was fine. I could wait a little longer. The news was too beautiful to rush.
I headed back to the palace, my steps lighter than they had been in years. My heart felt full, almost bursting with happiness. For the first time in a long while, I didn’t mind the side remarks I heard from the servants as I walked through the halls.
“Look at her, still walking around like she belongs here.”
“Poor Alpha. Stuck with a Luna who can’t even give him a pup.”
I ignored every single word. Let them talk. Soon they would eat their words. Soon they would see.
When I reached our private quarters, I closed the door behind me and leaned against it for a second, smiling to myself. I planned to take a nice warm bath, maybe wear that soft blue dress Markus loved, and wait for him. I wanted everything to be perfect when I told him he was going to be a father.
But I didn’t get the chance.
I had just kicked off my shoes when I heard heavy footsteps coming down the corridor. Then I caught his scent — strong, familiar, like pine trees and fresh rain. My heart jumped with excitement. He was home early!
The door swung open.
I smiled wide and rushed toward him, arms open for the hug I had been dreaming about all afternoon.
But instead of pulling me close, Markus pushed me away so hard I stumbled back.
“Get away from me, you cheating w***e!”
His voice was cold and full of anger. The smile on my face died instantly. I stared at him, my mouth open, my hands still reaching out even though he had already stepped back.
The joy that had been bubbling inside me turned into ice in my chest.
“Markus… what?” I whispered, my voice barely coming out. “What did you just say?”
He stood there in the doorway, his eyes dark with rage. His fists were clenched at his sides. This was not the man who had held me so gently this morning before he left. This was someone else entirely.
I felt my stomach twist. The tiny spark of life inside me suddenly felt so fragile.
“Markus,” I tried again, tears of a different kind now burning my eyes. “I don’t understand…”
But he just looked at me like I was a stranger. Like I had broken something precious between us.
And in that moment, the beautiful news I had been carrying home like a treasure suddenly felt heavy and terrifying.
I pressed my hands to my stomach without thinking, protecting what no one else knew about yet.
What was happening?
