Chapter 01: The Rejection
Lucian, I wasn't the one who poisoned your mom. Yes, I served her breakfast, but I wasn't the one who did it. "Stop lying, Tessa! I regret accepting the contract to marry you! You lied to my father, claiming we were mates, and he forced me to sign it," Lucian said, gripping my fists and pinning me against the wall. "The Mooncrest Pack is ashamed to have you as my Luna, Tessa! I want nothing more to do with you," he added, pacing around the room. I lowered my head, tears streaming silently. A few minutes later, the door creaked open, and Helena walked in. "Hi, sweetheart," she said with a sly smile, entering my room as if she owned it. Lucian took her hand, and together they walked to the living room. "To everyone here," Lucian declared loudly, today, I, Alpha Lucian, reject Luna Tessa as my mate! She will no longer be the Luna of Mooncrest Pack. She will henceforth live as a commoner with no respect or Luna attached to her name. Here comes your new Luna Helena! Cheers erupted throughout the house. Glasses clinked as they toasted to the announcement. While most were thrilled, I caught the other expressions of a few who seemed uneasy but dared not oppose Lucian’s decree. I rushed to my room, breathing heavily. My chest felt like it might burst from the sheer weight of my grief. I couldn’t take it anymore. I was pregnant with my mate's child, but he had just rejected me. The pain was unbearable. I had prepared for this moment. Days ago, I collected the divorce papers, knowing it might come to this. With shaking hands, I pulled them from a drawer, my tears blurring the text. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching. Panicked, I pushed the papers back into the drawer and sat on the bed. Lucian entered, his presence heavy with bitterness. My heart raced with fear, but a trace of defiance burned inside me. I refused to be anyone's property, not even a werewolf's. "After three years of marriage, Lucian," I began, my voice shaking but steady, after sacrificing my love and everything for this pack, you choose to humiliate me. You chose her over me, even after I told you I wasn’t responsible for poisoning your mother. I’ve had enough. I can’t take this anymore. I retrieved the divorce papers and held them out to him. "You’ve already rejected me, so sign these, Lucian, and I promise you’ll never see me again." He took the papers, scanned them briefly, then tore them into pieces. I’m not signing any divorce papers! I rejected you as my Luna, not as my wife! You’re too weak to rule my pack Helena is a better fit! Lucian shouted, grabbing me and pinning me against the wall again. He brushed off strands of hair from my neck, exposing his bite mark. See this? You still have my mark. No one will accept you if you leave. You’re mine, Tessa! he said before kissing me forcefully. In the scuffle, something fell from my bag. Lucian picked it up. His eyes darkened as he read it. "You’re pregnant? Answer me!" Yes, I was pregnant, I replied coldly. But when I found out you rejected me, I couldn’t keep the child of a mate who no longer wanted me. I got rid of it. "Tell me you’re lying, Tessa," Lucian demanded, his voice trembling. "I’m not," I said firmly, grabbing my luggage and walking out of the Mooncrest Pack for good, never looking back. My journey took me to the Moon Goddess’s shrine, where I met Elyssa, a servant of the shrine. Tessa, Elyssa began solemnly, "You are not an ordinary human. You are a descendant of an ancient werewolf bloodline." "What do you mean?" I asked, confused. "You are stronger than you realize, and the child in your womb will inherit his father’s strength and your mystical powers. You come from a lineage with unique abilities that could make you stronger than any Alpha. That’s why Lucian’s father chose you as the perfect Luna for the pack," Elyssa revealed. "But what powers? I don’t even know how to use them," I replied, my voice tinged with frustration. "Your fear holds you back," Elyssa explained. Once you conquer it, you will unlock your true potential. Now go, Tessa. May the Moon Goddess guide you as you start a new life. "Thank you, Elyssa," I said, bowing my head. I left the shrine, my path shrouded in uncertainty. As I walked through the dense forest, the moonlight casting eerie shadows, Elyssa’s words echoed in my mind. I wasn’t the same woman who had been humiliated and cast aside. A fire burned within me a fire fueled by betrayal and a newfound purpose. I clutched my stomach, a strange warmth spreading through me. Yes, I lied to Alpha Lucian that I got rid of the baby because I can't stand to have a baby for my rejected mate, I sighed and continued walking. The forest seemed alive, every crunch of leaves beneath my boots and whisper of the wind intensified my sharpened senses. Suddenly, I stopped. Someone was following me. My heart pounded as footsteps grew louder behind me. I increased my pace, but the presence stayed close, their intent unmistakable. "Who’s there?" I called out, trying to steady my voice. Silence. Then, Helena stepped out of the shadows, her golden eyes gleaming with malice. "You didn’t think I’d let you leave so easily, did you?" she sneered. "What do you want?" I demanded, taking a step back. Helena’s smile widened. "Lucian’s rejection wasn’t a coincidence, Tessa. That poison? It was me. You were never meant to be Luna. I ensured it." The truth hit me like a blow. "It was you," I whispered, my voice trembling with anger. Helena laughed darkly. Of course, it was me. You’re too weak to lead. I did what had to be done. Her form began to shift her limbs elongated, her claws extended, and her fangs gleamed in the moonlight. "You’re not leaving here alive," she roared. Panic rushed through me, but then, so did something else, power. A strange energy coursed through my veins, reviving the ancient bloodline Elyssa had spoken of. My senses sharpened, and strength I never knew I had flowed through me. Helena lunged, but I sidestepped with ease, my movements instinctual. I extended my hand, and a burst of silvery light erupted, slamming her into a tree. Helena barked. You’re not supposed to have powers! You are just a mere werewolf, she screamed. "You underestimated me," I said coldly. When she charged again, I dodged and struck her with a powerful blow. She let out a bloodcurdling scream before dissolving into a cloud of black smoke. Breathing heavily, I looked at my glowing hands in awe. Elyssa’s words echoed, You are stronger than you think. I touched my stomach, a feeling of hope igniting within me. As the forest fell silent, I realized I couldn’t run from my destiny. Whatever awaited me, I would face it head-on. With determination etched on my face, I disappeared into the shadows, my journey just beginning.
