Chapter 3: The Celebration

1939 Words
The figure in the doorway stood motionless for a moment, shrouded in shadow. My breath caught in my throat as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing. Whoever or whatever it was, their presence radiated a chilling aura that made the air feel heavier. “Daryl!” I called out instinctively, my voice trembling. No response. The figure stepped forward, and the dim light from the hallway illuminated their face. A man tall, cloaked in dark clothing, his piercing eyes glowing faintly like a predator in the night. But it wasn’t just him. More figures crowded behind him, their eyes just as menacing, their expressions devoid of mercy. "Find her," the man said in a low, gravelly voice. I stumbled back, bumping into the edge of the bed. "What do you want?" My voice shook, but I forced myself to sound stronger than I felt. The man smirked, taking another step closer. "We’re here for what you carry. Hand it over, and we’ll leave you in one piece." That's the price to pay for killing our members! What did I carry? My hand instinctively went to my stomach. My unborn child. I shook my head, fear turning to resolve. “You’re not taking anything from me.” The man’s smirk faded, replaced by a deadly glare. "Wrong answer." Before I could react, Daryl appeared in the doorway like a storm. His massive frame blocked their path, and his presence alone sent a wave of relief through me. He wasn’t alone, his Beta and several of his warriors flanked him, their growls filling the air. “Step away from her,” Daryl commanded, his voice cold and dangerous. The man chuckled darkly, clearly unfazed. “Ah, Alpha Daryl. We were hoping you’d join us. You’ve been hiding her well, but it ends tonight.” Without another word, Daryl lunged, shifting mid-air into his wolf form. His pack came after him, and chaos burst into the room. The attackers were strong, their movements unnaturally fast, and their strikes calculated. I ran to the corner, holding my stomach protectively as the battle steamed around me. Teeth clashed, claws tore through flesh, and the room filled with jams and the sickening sound of bodies hitting the walls. The man who had spoken to me locked eyes with Daryl, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "You don’t know what she is, do you?" “Daryl barking”, lashing out at the man, but his words hit a chord in me. What am I? They rushed towards me, but my mind was spinning. The pieces didn’t add up. Why were they after me? Why did they care about my child? I wasn't the one who killed their member, Daryl did yes but he did it to save me. “And what had he meant?” Suddenly, one of the attackers broke away from the fight and pounced at me. My scream cut through the chaos, and I braced for effect, but Daryl blocked him, his massive jaws clamping down on the attacker’s neck. “You’re not touching her!” Daryl barked, his voice twisted through his wolf form. The attackers began to escape, discovering they couldn’t win. The man who had spoken to me gave one last look, his glowing eyes narrowing. “We’ll be back. And next time, not even your Alpha can save you.” With that, they disappeared into the night, leaving doom in their path. As the silence settled over the room, I slumped against the wall, shivering. Daryl shifted back, his breath ragged, blood staining his skin. He knelt in front of me, his hands gentle as he checked for injuries. “Are you hurt?” I shook my head, my voice barely above a whisper. “They knew about the baby, Daryl. They knew about me. Why?” “I don’t know,” he admitted. But we’ll find out. I promise you, Tessa, I'll protect you and your child, no matter what. But deep down, I wasn’t sure if anyone could protect me from what was coming. His jaw tightened and for the first time. I never knew you were carrying a child and it shocks me how they found out when your belly hasn't popped up yet, Daryl said. Daryl carried me back to his room, still in his wolf's form, he placed me on the bed and cupped my cheek. I'm here for you, okay, I promise. Now switching into a human form he lay tirelessly on the bed and dozed off. A few weeks passed after that incident that night. Daryl has been so good to me ever since I met him. He always comes to the apartment he gave me to check up on me but today I didn't see any sight of Daryl. My stomach is already growing bigger and I can no longer bend or do things myself. While I was in the kitchen preparing dinner for myself a knock came from the door and I managed to open it hoping it was Daryl, he normally shows up every day to see me and I've grown fond of him. When I opened the door a stranger I hadn't seen before pushed me and got into the house. I fell to the ground and screamed in pain. “Who are you and what are you doing in my house? I managed to ask the stranger.” “And who the hell are you to question me in my fiance's home?” She asked. “My name is Amelia and I have come to see the w***e stalking after my man.” “Oh, she's with a child.” Have you come to put your pregnancy on my man? I give you a few days to leave this apartment else you will incur my wrath! Amelia threatened. I kept silent looking at her for a moment then I spoke up. Leave my house right now Amelia or whatever you call yourself! I flared. Oh well, I'm leaving a little w***e! “But I promise to be back for you and that bastard in there, Amelia said, storming off and slamming the door behind her.” When she left I sat down on the couch weeping. “If my husband Alpha Lucian hadn't rejected me, I wouldn't be here taking all this ridicule, I thought.” I was still thinking when the door screeched open, “Daryl walked in.” “Hi, Tessa.” Are you alright? Why are you crying? He rushed towards me holding me. Your fiance came here threatening me to leave this apartment. Daryl, I'm sorry I didn't intend to come between you and your fiance. I think I need to leave for peace to reign. Which of my fiance, Daryl asked. How many of them do you have? I asked him. She said her name is Amelia, I added. You go nowhere, Tessa! How could Amelia do such a thing? “Daryl said, his voice filled with anger.” “Come here," he said, hugging me.” You are safe here and no one dares to hurt or order you about okay? I make the rules here, So cheer up for me, Daryl said. I faked a smile and changed the topic. “Where have you been?” I inquired. I've been waiting for you all day but Didn't see a cue from you. “Oh sorry,” I was supposed to be here earlier on but I had something to tackle, Daryl said, his tone switched. I could sense he was not alright so I decided to ask him. “Are you okay?” I asked. Do not hide anything from me, you know you can confide in me. Sure is just what Daryl said, but I shut him up. Shu… just spill them out “I met with the group of Werewolves that attacked us the night before, Daryl said and stopped.” “Go on,” what about it? What happened? I inquired. Alpha Derek is an infamous man and he owns a pack close to the boundary I saw you. He requested for your unborn child, saying the child in your womb has mysterious power and would be useful for their pack. I asked him why, and he said you killing their own will cost you losing yours. “But I told him to stay away from you, letting him know I was the one who killed their gang when he tried to attack you, Daryl paused for a moment and continued.” You know they fear me a lot because my pack existed a long time ago and they were surviving from us before they created theirs. He said he wanted you, or else there would be war between the two packs. Daryl said, his face looking pale. “Are you scared of Alpha Derek?” I asked him. “Not at all my dear, Alpha Derek is no half compared to me and if he plans to start a war, he'd fail, Daryl said between chuckles.” I felt relieved by that. Tessa, as long as you are here, no one, I mean no one will ever hurt you. You are my sole obligation and I promise to stand by you come rain come sun, Daryl said hugging me. Thank you, Daryl. I can't thank you enough for all you've done for me but I promise not to let you down. I declared, tears streaming down my face. “Now, come here.” I want to show you something. Ever since you came, I haven't introduced you to the pack mates. This is the right time to do it, Daryl said. But… I stuttered. I'm not your Luna. Yes, but as long as you are here, I want them to see you as my Luna. It will conserve you a lot and make anyone not come close to you, Daryl said. “Daryl, I called.” Yes, Tessa, it won't bite you, I promise okay? I'm just trying to protect you so that no one would ever hurt you, he added. “What about Amelia?” I asked him. To be frank with you, Amelia and I broke off our relationship one month ago. She's no longer my fiance and can never be my Luna. “She's too vulnerable and if you had taken a glance at her neck, you'd see that I didn't mark her, Daryl revealed.” How come I wasn't watchful, I thought to myself. Before I could snap out of my thoughts, Daryl took me by the hand and led me down the hallway. This is Tessa, Luna of Silver Pack, no one should hurt her rather respect her as one of us and as our Luna. Anyone that goes contrary to this should be beheaded with immediate effect, Daryl said, lifting my hands to the air. Mumbles everywhere while some were jubilating and roaring, Luna Tessa countless times. I was shocked to see that Daryl had plotted this without letting me know. The pack was adorned, food and drinks were being attended to, and soon after they all turned into their wolf form, running around me. It made me feel honored and I felt a yearning for serenity and significance that I haven't felt for years. In a moment, an intense pain coursed through me amid the celebration as I cried out, Alpha Daryl my baby! I was about to fall when he held me in his arms, the environment became blurry, but I could hear the echoes of the celebration fading in the air…
