CHAPTER TWENTY-TWOMallory May 15, 2016 There’s a knock on the door. My nerves have been building up all morning. I stop pacing and slowly fill my lungs with several deep breaths. This is such a different kind of anxiety than any I have experienced. I’ve had weeks to prepare for this moment, and I don’t want to be uneasy, but I am. It doesn’t make sense. Calm down, calm down, it’s just Mom. I’m not sure what to expect, and I’m not sure how to act. Will my mom be scared or disappointed? Will she be ashamed of me or accept what happened to me?
