CHAPTER 1: THE MEETING
The warm summer air enveloped Britney like a gentle caress as she stood outside her aunt's house, the sounds of laughter and music drifting from the nearby party mingling with the sweet scent of blooming hibiscus. She was still getting used to the neighborhood, having just moved to St Mary from Kingston a few months ago. Her cousin Ernie, a tall, lanky boy with a mischievous grin, stood beside her, sipping on a Red Stripe.
As they chatted, Britney's eyes wandered to a couple walking hand in hand down the street. The guy, Tony, was tall and lean, with piercing brown eyes and a charming smile that made Britney's heart skip a beat. She nudged Ernie. "Who's that?"
Ernie followed her gaze and nodded. "That's Tony, he's new around here too. I think he just moved in with his aunt down the road."
Britney watched as Tony stopped in front of a nearby house, chatting with his girlfriend, Rochelle, before saying goodnight and continuing on his way. Britney's eyes lingered on him, her interest piqued.
"Hey, Ernie, go find out who he is, yeah?" she whispered, nudging her cousin.
Ernie raised an eyebrow but obliged, sauntering over to a group of guys nearby. He returned with a grin. "Apparently, he's a good guy, just broke up with his girl from Kingston. His aunt lives down the road."
Britney's mind was already racing. She waited for what felt like an eternity for Tony to return, her heart pounding in anticipation. When he did, she took a deep breath and approached him.
"Hey, Tony, come sit down, man," she said, offering him a seat on the stool.
Tony looked surprised but pleased, his eyes curling at the corners as he smiled. "Thanks, lovely."
As they talked, Britney laughed and joked, feeling a spark of connection she couldn't ignore. They exchanged numbers, and as Tony walked away, Britney turned to Ernie with a grin.
"I'm gonna get that, you see if I'm don't!" she whispered, her eyes shining with excitement.
Little did she know, their story was just beginning, and the twists and turns of love were waiting just around the corner...
