Chapter 21: The Secret Beneath the Waves

662 Words
The sea was restless that night. Dark waves crashed against the silver cliffs of the hidden island, and the moon hung low in the sky like a silent witness. The ocean, usually calm and welcoming to Princess Marina, now felt different… uneasy. Marina stood at the edge of the shore, her long turquoise tail glimmering under the moonlight. Her three children slept safely in the underwater palace, guarded by the royal protectors, yet her heart refused to rest. Something was coming. She could feel it. Behind her, a familiar voice broke the silence. “Marina.” She turned to see King Adrian stepping out from the shadows of the cliffs. His dark hair was wet from the sea wind, and his eyes carried the same worry she felt in her chest. “You sensed it too,” Marina said quietly. Adrian nodded. “The ocean currents changed tonight. The guards reported strange movements near the forbidden trench.” Marina’s heart tightened. The Forbidden Trench was a place no mermaid dared to swim near. Ancient legends claimed it was where the darkest sea creatures slept… creatures powerful enough to destroy entire kingdoms. “What if it’s just a storm?” Marina asked, though she didn’t believe her own words. Adrian shook his head slowly. “No storm makes the sea feel like this.” At that moment, a powerful wave crashed harder than the others, sending cold water rushing over the rocks. Then— A horn echoed across the ocean. It was the royal warning horn from the underwater palace. Marina’s eyes widened. “That’s the palace signal,” she whispered. Without another word, she dove into the ocean, Adrian following closely behind. They swam quickly through glowing coral forests and schools of shimmering fish until the grand palace appeared in the distance, its pearl towers shining faintly in the dark water. But something was wrong. The palace gates were open. Guards swam frantically around the entrance. Marina rushed forward. “What happened?!” One of the guards bowed quickly, panic clear in his eyes. “Your Majesty… someone broke into the palace.” Marina felt her blood run cold. “My children?” “They are safe,” the guard said quickly. “But… the Ancient Sea Map has been stolen.” Adrian’s jaw tightened. “The Sea Map?” he repeated. That map was the most protected artifact in the kingdom. It revealed the location of hidden ocean kingdoms, magical currents, and ancient powers buried deep beneath the sea. If it fell into the wrong hands… Entire oceans could fall into chaos. “Did you see who took it?” Marina demanded. The guard hesitated. “Yes… but we do not know his name.” “Who was it?” The guard swallowed. “A man.” Marina frowned. “A human?” “No… worse.” The guard’s voice dropped into a whisper. “He had the mark of the Shadow Ocean Clan.” Adrian’s expression darkened instantly. “That clan was destroyed decades ago,” he said. “That’s what we believed,” the guard replied. A heavy silence fell between them. If the Shadow Ocean Clan had returned, it meant only one thing. War was coming to the ocean. Marina clenched her fists as determination burned in her eyes. “Prepare the royal guards,” she said firmly. Adrian looked at her. “What are you planning?” Marina turned toward the dark sea beyond the palace. “If they want the power of the ocean,” she said, her voice strong and fearless, “Then they will have to face its queen.” Far away in the deepest part of the ocean, inside a dark underwater cave… A mysterious figure unrolled the stolen Ancient Sea Map. He smiled coldly. “Soon,” he whispered. “The oceans will belong to me.” And the waves above grew even more violent. The war of the seas had begun.
