chapter 1: The price
I thought my debt was money. I was wrong.
"Eliana, please. Forgive me."
My aunt was on the floor, crying, while three men in black suits stood in front of us. The room smelled like cigarettes and cheap alcohol. My small house, my only home since my parents died, suddenly felt like a prison.
"How much do you owe? How much?" My voice was shaking. I was only 18, a second-year college student. I had no idea.
"Five million," she whispered, her face in her hands. "I pawned the house, I borrowed from them... I couldn't pay. We're going to lose everything. They will kill us."
The tallest man laughed. He was terrifyingly handsome. Sharp nose, dark hair styled perfectly, a dangerous smile. He wore a black expensive suit, but his shirt was open, revealing tattoos on his neck. But his eyes... his eyes were amber, like an animal in the dark. Like a wolf.
"Your aunt didn't tell you the full terms, sweetheart," he said. His voice was cold but deep, with an accent I couldn't place. "Money is not the payment anymore."
He walked closer. He smelled like expensive cologne and danger. Like forest and smoke and power. Every step he took made my heart beat faster, not just from fear, but from something else I didn't understand.
"What's your name?" he asked, looking down at me. I am 5'4, he must be 6'3.
"E-Eliana... Eliana Cruz."
"Eliana." He repeated my name like he was tasting it. "I'm Zandro Valerius. And from tonight, you belong to me."
I froze. My blood turned cold. "What do you mean? What are you saying?"
He threw a contract on the table in front of me. I saw my name printed there. Eliana Cruz. And my aunt's signature at the bottom, with a thumbprint in red.
"Your aunt offered you. Eighteen years old, college girl, innocent, beautiful. Perfect payment for five million. The boss likes innocent ones."
"WHAT?! You sold me?! Tita! You sold me!" I screamed at my aunt, tears finally falling.
"Eliana, we had no other choice! They will kill us! They will burn the house! Forgive me, anak! It's only for one month! He said only one month!"
Zandro grabbed my chin. Rough, possessive. His fingers were full of tattoos and silver rings, and his hand was burning hot. So hot it felt like fire.
"You're coming with me. You'll live in my mansion. You'll wear what I buy. You'll do what I say. You'll sleep where I tell you to sleep. You will be mine to protect and mine to punish."
"And if I refuse?" I tried to be brave even though my knees were shaking.
He leaned closer, his breath on my ear, his lips almost touching me. "Then your aunt dies
