I was patiently waiting for the kidnappers to come in and wonder, maybe why I was still asleep.
“Morgan.” The voice called out again, this time louder. She was getting close to the door, then the door opened. “Morgan, I have been calling your name. I know you're not asleep so wake up.”
The person touched my feet and it felt cold that I instantly jumped up. “Please don't hurt me?” I pleaded, hiding my face with my hands.
“Morgan? What's wrong?” The woman sat on the bed facing me. “Did you have a nightmare?”
Was I the one being called Morgan? That wasn't my name, did they mistake me for someone else.
“I'm sorry this is all a misunderstanding. My name is Karla, not Morgan..” My hands were still covering my eyes so I couldn't see her face.
“I don't have time for your jokes. Come down for breakfast. You have school in thirty minutes.”The woman stood up and left.
“School? Breakfast?”
Kidnappers don't offer their victims breakfast, neither do they let them go to school. Was that another plot?
Immediately, I realized it, I ran and quickly bolted the door. No one could come unexpectedly now and call me strange names. I walked round the room, looking at the pathetic things there.
A black Teddy bear? Who owns a black Teddy bear? I wondered. Whoever lived here was a dark person because the only color I could see was black. Her wardrobe was filled with different shades of black dresses, tops and trousers.
“Who is this girl?”
“Morgan, Mum's calling you.” A light knock on the door was all I needed to be alert.
“I’ll be downstairs in a few minutes.” I answered and was shocked by my own voice. I didn't know why I was sounding so different.
I needed to wash my hands, so I entered the bathroom which was equally in the room. I couldn't find any soap, so I decided to do with what I had, so I washed with no soap. I was about to dry my hands with a towel when I looked up to the mirror that had been in front of me for a while.
I couldn't believe that I looked entirely like a different person. I stumbled back instantly because the shock was so profound. I continued staring at the mirror, but there was a stranger staring back at me, making every single move I was making.
I was confused and in total disbelief as to what was happening. I looked like a twenty year old girl when a few hours ago, I was a 32 year married woman with marriage problems. What happened to Alpha Lucas and Amy?
Did they die? Or was I the one dead and was simply living in another world that wasn't earth?
I touched my face, it was pale but soft. Morgan really had nice beautiful skin, I observed. Her eyes were dark, her nose well proportioned, silk like cheeks. She was what one would describe as a beauty queen with skin that glowed with health and maintenance.
I needed answers to my questions and I needed to ask the people downstairs who I presumed was the family of this girl I was living in. So I opened the door and with fear, I took the first step down.
Then, the scene of me falling off the steps flashed in my head and it made my eyes blur.
“No.” I said, hesitantly.
“Morgan, your breakfast is getting cold.” The woman that had come into the room previously stated. I believed she was the young lady's mother because they looked alike and I could see her face now.
“Why were you acting so strange?” A younger boy asked when I sat at the dinning.
“Nothing.” I replied. I was very famished and loved what was served, so I dug in. There was silence as I ate, I waited to ask questions. “I'm going to school right?”
“Of course, you are. Or have you started missing classes?” The woman asked.
“No, no.” I answered and continued eating my food. Asking questions would be awkward so I ate quietly, hoping I would get my answers soon. I watched the little boy pack his plates to the sink. I did the same.
“I packed Lunch.” The woman replied and handed us food in a box each. “Finish everything. You need to eat those vegetables.”
We thanked her and headed for school. Whatever was happening this morning was already weird, so I just went with the flow so I wouldn't be called crazy.
“I'll come to your class to collect some food.” I told the little boy as we walked to school.
“No. It's mine by the way, we don't go to the same school.” He replied, clutching his food tighter. I smiled when I saw this, I wasn't after his food but to know if we were in the same school.
What else should I know about this new body? I wondered. Was her father alive?
“Dad?”
“Hmm? He'll be back soon from the airport. I miss him so much.” The little boy replied. He did talk too much but that was good for me.
What about my body? Where was I? Why was I in someone else's body?
“You remember that woman you disliked so much? You didn't like talking about her?”
I didn't know who he was speaking about but I was curious. “Who?”
“There's a funeral happening on the next street at the same house you had visited. You came back and told us you didn't like how the people in that house related, and that you disliked how the wife was treated?”
“Wife?” I needed to see for myself. “Remind me of the street number so I could remember.”
“No 16 Broadway, just 2 hours away from Tony's.” He said.
“I stopped walking. That was my home, that was where I lived with Alpha Lucas. Funeral?
“Who was having a Funeral?” I gazed blindly for a few seconds. I met the boy staring at me and I discovered I didn't know his name. “You can keep going, I want to go back home to get something.”
“I responded and ran off. The roads seemed familiar because I could remember passing through this way on my way to work. With the speed of light, I was at 16 Broadway Street already. People were gathered and it was truly a funeral but whose is it?
People, dressed in black, sniffed and shed tears. My eyes met with one of my friends, Emma at the office. What was she doing here if they were really having a funeral.
“In the loving memory of Karla Kimberworth, may her soul rest in peace.” What the priest said echoed.
“No, no. I can't die.” it exclaimed. It happened slowly, I could see my dead body, pale and white. I obviously looked sick because I had cancer. The fall from the stairs flashed in my thoughts again.
Did I die? Did Alpha Lucas kill me when he pushed me? Where was he?
I was about to be put into the digged grave, I couldn't bear it. I watched my body being put into a six foot grace. Goosebumps filled my body and for a moment I went numb. What was I supposed to do now? Live as another person in another body?
That was when I saw them. Amy still very much cuddled in Alpha Lucas’ arms, crying. I knew that it wasn't real, it was all fake and pretentious. Alpha Lucas kept stealing glances at my body, hoping I wouldn't suddenly wake up and accuse him of my death.
