Chapter1
Jessica stood in front of her mirror doing her hair as she hummed one of her favorite songs happily. I am made for the best, I will have the best". Suddenly, she had a knock on her door. Knock! Knock! Yes, come in. As the door opened, she turned to see who it was. Standing in front of her was her father. Jessica, can I speak with you for a moment? Her father inquired quietly. Yes, Daddy, you can have a seat. Anthony Johnson immediately sat on a chair.
My friend and business associate for more than two decades has decided to remarry after he lost his beautiful wife two years ago to cancer of the breast. He is a good man, kind, hardworking as well as good-looking. Jessica’s father, Anthony Johnson, pointed that out as he tried to ask the daughter to marry his old friend.
But, Daddy, why are you telling me all this? She asked, wearing a stern look. Anthony, realizing the concerned and worried look on his daughter's face, made efforts to move closer to where she was seated and placed his hand around her shoulder.
My beloved daughter, you know I will always want the best for you and, being my only child that I love so much, I would like you to marry my friend Billionaire Frank. What! Daddy! She immediately stood where she sat, removing the father's hand from her shoulder, moved away from his hold. He's too old for me, he must be your age , close to your age or even older. Daddy why? She yelled at him. I don't even know him enough to consider marrying him. In fact, I don't love him. Jessica said. I understand, you both hardly know each other. However, with time you will. Just agree to marry him. No daddy! She responded ruefully and burst into tears. The father tried to console her and asked her to think about it, considering the fact that her marriage to Billionaire Frank would further cement his friendship and business relationship with him. He also assured her that his friend would take good care of her, she would not lack anything. He left her in the room as she wept uncontrollably.
This decision was really hard for Jessica, her expression and reactions when I informed her conotes volume. I hope I'm doing the right thing as her father, like this is the only way to make my relationship with Billionaire Frank everlasting. I stand to gain a lot should my daughter accept to be his wife. I pray and hope she understands and not think otherwise of me as her father. She's my only child and I desire the best for her and this appears to be one of it. Mr Anthony was pensive as he sat in his living room, his eyes gazing at the television screen while reminiscing on his discussion earlier with Jessica.
Daddy, dinner is ready. Jessica said rather coldly as she went ahead to set the table for two. She prepared grilled chicken with fruit salad. The Johnson's always have a light menu for dinner. They both sat quietly, and he prayed“ Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for this provision, bless this meal, and please provide for those who do not have to eat. We pray through Christ our Lord” Amen. They both chorused in unison. The dinner was eaten in silence. Jessica avoided her father's gaze as they ate quietly.
Hello, good evening. Mr Anthony responded cheerfully to the other person on the telephone. I would like us to meet at the club tonight. The voice came over the telephone conversation calmly. Okay it's fine. Anthony obliged almost immediately. The telephone conversation ended as soon as it commenced.
Are you going out tonight? Jessica asked wistfully, looking at the father. Yes, I was invited to the club by my friend, billionaire Frank. The father replied coldly. Tell him that I don't want to marry him, father please. She said ruefully. Kindly, give more thought to it, no one is rushing you into the marriage. He replied smiling as he drove off to the club, leaving the daughter staring at him and uttering no word anymore.
Hi, they exchanged pleasantries and hugged each other, smiling at each other as they met at the club that evening. You look stunning and smell nice enough for any young girl to fall head over in love with you to marry you. Anthony Johnson, complimented his friend, billionaire Frank, as they found a comfortable space to settle in. Oh! Really? He replied shyly, as he smiled at him. Billionaire Frank is a man who has a good sense of fashion and nature and also did good work while creating himself, as he can be said to be handsome, tall, elegant with a jawline which seats well on his face, giving him a nice look. One will hardly believe he is in his late fiftees because he still looks pretty young and energetic. Yes, you look good, his friend went further to buttress it. Thanks anyway, he responded happily.
How is my future bride, Jessica? Have you informed her of your desire and decision to have us married as husband and wife? Billionaire Frank inquired as they both dipped their drink, gazing at each other and enjoying the cool music being played in the club. They had ordered Champaign wine as they arrived.
My daughter is doing great. We had dinner together before I left the house as soon as I received your call requesting my presence at the club tonight. He said pensively. Anthony, I hope everything is alright because the expression on your face says otherwise. He retorted. Sure, yes, everything is alright.
Jessica is finding it difficult to accept being your bride. He told his friend thoughtfully. I have discussed it with her and her response was negative. He went further to inform him worriedly. However, I told her I wanted the best for her being my only child and requested she take time to think it through, as no one expected her to quickly accept and get married to her almost immediately.
You are absolutely right, my friend. I am not in a rush to make her my wife. She should take her time and think it through while we get to know each other better before saying I do. Billionaire Frank said wistfully. They both finished their drinks and left for their houses.
It's normal for her to react the way she did. I know she will like me the moment she sees me, regardless of my age . Billionaire Frank thought quietly as he drove home to his mansion.
Jessica's father returned home to meet his beloved daughter by watching television. Daddy, she greeted while having her eyes still glued to the programme. Thank you. He replied coldly and went straight upstairs to his room because he was already exhausted from the day and needed to rest.
The rays of the early morning sun shone through the curtains of the window as Jessica's father tossed from one end of the bed to the other and suddenly, there was a knock on his door and an accompanying voice gently calling,” daddy breakfast is ready”. Realizing the voice to be that of his daughter Jessica, he slowly got up from his bed and rushed to the bathroom to wash his face and then joined her at the table for breakfast.
Jessica and her father had always had breakfast together ever since her mother passed on. Her mother had died while giving birth to her younger brother, who was born premature and could not survive. Jessica was already ten years old when the ugly incident happened. She had cried and mourned the death of both her beloved mother and brother, who she had always wanted and wished he survived. Mr Anthony went into depression as a result of the incident and almost committed suicide, but with the intervention of lovely family and friends he was able to overcome the unpleasant incident. Ever since then, he has become almost inseparable with his daughter, which happens to be all he got out of his marriage to his heart throb.
Good morning Daddy. She greeted him smiling as her father tried to get settled on the table while gently taking out a seat in order for him to sit. Sweet good morning, my angel. He replied almost immediately, wearing a smile. I hope you had a good rest? He inquired. Yes. I did. As she smiled back at her father. The breakfast was toast bread and hot tea. They are both in silence.
I wish to have a discussion with you before you leave for the office this morning. I promise not to take too much of your time, because I understand you must be at work on time. Jessica said, as her father was
About to leave the dining table.
