I look down at my phone as it dings, signaling an incoming text and I smile when I see Ashlynn’s name on the read out. “Do you have plans tonight?”
Ben: “No, you want to hang out?”
The dots appear in the message window as she types, before disappearing and reappearing several times. She’s either writing me a book, or can’t decide what she actually wants to say to me.
Finally, Ashlynn: “Yeah, I’ll be over after work. How’s a roast chicken sound for dinner?”
Ben: “Sounds yummy!”
I wait to see if she’s going to say anything else, but my phone stays quiet. I shrug and get back to work, but my thoughts keep drifting back to her. It sounds like today was a better day at work for her than Friday at least, but I can’t help feeling like I’ve missed something.
