“I’m not sure why you're telling me this, Marcus.” Emily texted, her hands trembling as she pressed the send button.
Her stomach tightened after the text had ticked twice. The back of her head itched, her body crawled with goosebumps.
Was Matt the father?
Is that the reason why Matt stopped working?
Her mind ran with a million thoughts when her phone buzzed again. Another text from Marcus.
“I’m sure you know who the father is, right?”
“No. Who is it?”
Emily could feel her breath getting hotter. Asking a question to get an answer she already knew made her chest hurt.
“Take a wild guess…” Marcus replied.
“Yours?”
“Definitely not. You know that already.”
“Then whose?”
He replied with a laughing emoji
“I’ll leave that to him to explain to you when you next meet.”
