"The Task"
Every people we meet every day aren't passer-by. We met them for a reason. A reason that could either cause us to change or to make difference in our actions. Having graduated from a normal university with the course you've been fighting for for four years or more and having the job that fits that course is not easy as others think of it. Many would say that after they graduated they would buy everything. House. Food. Travel. Phones and Gadgets. Luxurious stuff. But many have forgotten the choice of their hearts. Many have fully disregard the desire of their hearts. Day 01, Week 02, Month 7 It's almost a week since I became a journalist in a broadcast company. It's harder than what I think it would be like before. The Philippines has been under the influence of the Chinese Government after the country borrowed so much money that put them in debt to China. Chinese government were free to deal with the Filipino people. It's like they were entirely the ruling power of the state. But a true Filipino will always fight for her or his land, for the sake of his country. "Ms. Shae" my boss called that caught off my attention. I arranged my table and put the article I was reading back to how it was placed before. "I would like to pay you twice than what you are earning right now." He said that took my attention and made my jaw to drop. It's not like I have been offered so much before, but doubling your pay is not an easy thing that Filipinos could do in these years. "Sir?" I answered in reply. He raised his right brow and said again. "'Di mo ba narinig? I said I will double your pay" he said. "But-" he stops. With eagerness for the money I'll be earning without even hearing the 'buts' I said, "Yes sir!!! I will accept it! Whatever it will be!!!" I said in excitement. "Sure of that?" He asked. "Yes Naman po!" I answered. "Even releasing an article against the Chinese Arm-Forces in the Philippines?" He said. It made my jaw dropped. Going against the Chinese government most especially in the Chinese Arm forces is so much prohibited by the Philippine Government or should I say Filipino-Chinese government. It can bring you to a sentence of death penalty once proven. The invasion of the Chinese government to our country has surpassed the limit that our own government is letting them decide for the country. But I also remember that my family is in debt. My father is in the hospital. My mother has medicine maintenance and I am the only one whom they are leaning on. So what am I supposed to do? It is to accept the job. "Don't worry, there is someone who is willing to triple the pay for you Ms. Shae" my boss speaks and left my table but before he could finally disappear in my gaze, I shouted, "Sir, I will do the job!" He averted his gaze to me and gave a sign to follow him on his office which I did immediately. While in the office, "What is it that I need to do?" I asked him. "I know it's more than to ask you this...but someone offered to criticize the government. It's beyond the job of being a journalist. You will create your own article by the end of November this year" he said that made me realize what is the job it is that I am about to do. "So what's there I need to do first?" I asked him. "We'll send you in a Chinese military base by next week...until then I will give you time to cancel this job" he said and smiled faintly as if he knows what is already coming. My decision was made and irrevocable. I need to accept the job. Sayang din Naman kung hindi ko kukunin. With that money I will be able to pay our family debt, I will be able to pay for the hospitalization of my father and I will be able to support my mother's daily medical maintenance. Next week. Day 01, Week 03, Month 07. "Are you sure about this Shae?" My boss once again asked. "Oo naman sir!" I replied and smiled with all positive vibes. Then he handed me an envelope that contains money. "For your first pay" he said I checked the money inside and I got so excited after seeing that my original pay wasn't doubled but tripled. "Thank you sir!" I said. "Be safe then" he said and left. While on the plane, I couldn't believe the amount of money I received earlier. With that, I can definitely pay for our family debt and for the hospitalization of my father. But I am also wondering if this job will be a success. The thing is that I just need to know much about the military plans of the Chinese and I need to create an article attacking them. If the spread of this article will open up the minds of Filipinos then I will be able to get their support and I won't need to face jail or even death. "Welcome to Base 7 of the Chinese Army, Miss" bungad sa akin nang isang army. He's tall and cute. Wala pa ako sa mood dahil nakatulog ako while in the drive after arriving from the airport. "Thank you Sir! May I know where can I stay?" I asked but he genuinely smiled as if he's going crazy. "In my heart miss? Pwede ka i-stay sa heart ko" he said with slang in his words. I don't know why but it made me smile. Or it's just me who finds it cute. "Anyways, let's be serious" I asked once again. "I am" he answered. "What?" I asked in reply. "Serious" he said and smiled with his eyes on mine. "Of?" I continued asking. "That you can stay in my heart Miss" he answered. "Loko" I smirked at him but he continues releasing an annoying smile. "Lead the way pls, Captain David Lee?" I asked mentioning his name which is printed on the right side of his uniform. He lead me to a tent. A basically military tent that everyone would expect of. With two foldable beds from corner to corner. I placed my bag which contains my things beside the right side of the foldable bed. I am here because of a mission. I was supposedly tasked to create an article about how Chinese and Filipino militaries are doing in their bilateral military trainings, however, they do not know that behind the released of the good articles about them is also the release of how the Chinese Militaries are slowly and invisibly colonizing the country. I rest myself in the bed thinking of the high risks I just entered. I wanted to back off but it's too late and besides if I do, problems will await. But the question remains, will it be a success?
