"I don't need time to decide. I'm not getting divorced," Athena said, straightening her back and standing a little taller.
"Send me your flight schedule. I'll meet you at the airport," Dante told her, then hung up.
She let out a breath before turning to me and smiling.
"I hope you have an army. You're going to need one to go against my father."
"Did you mean it?"
"Mean what?" she asked confused.
"That you're not getting divorced?"
"Yes," she said, lowering her eyes, not able to look at me.
"Please don't do that," I cupped her face in my hands and lifted her head up to look at me. "Don't hide from me, don't be scared to tell me what your thinking. Don't feel embarrassed either," I told her as I leaned down and softly kissed the top of her forehead.
"I don't think you understand what you're getting yourself into. I think once you find out, you're going to be begging me to divorce you."
"Is that what you want? Do you want me to just give up and walk away?" I asked, trying to figure out what she was thinking.
"It doesn't matter what I want, that's just what's going to happen," she said, shrugging her shoulders.
"What you want matters to me," I said, pulling her to me and wrapping my arms around her. I felt her body relax at my touch.
"Does that mean you would give me a divorce if I told you that's what I wanted?" she asked, not lifting her head from my chest.
"If that was honestly what you wanted, not other people. And I would only agree to that after you gave me at least five years to prove to you that I'm all in," I said, resting my chin on top of her head.
"You do understand that I don't remember anything from last night. I don't remember us getting married. Are you sure we're married?"
"It's okay if you don't remember because that was just to get you to marry me. I'm going to give you the wedding of your dreams. Whatever you want, it's yours."
"You don't have to do that."
"I know I don't have to, but you're my queen. I'm going to give you the world," I told her, and meant every word of it.
"I don't need the world. I need a husband that I can trust, that will stand by me through the hard stuff. A man who can't be bought or persuaded by promises of power. A man with a backbone who won't bow down to my father. Someone who stands by me no matter what," she said, leaning back and looking into my eyes.
"I can and will be the man that you need by your side. I won't let you down. I promise I'll make you happy." I hoped that she could see the sincerity in my eyes. I will lay my world at her feet. She will never want for anything. I'll spend every day of my life showing her how much she means to me.
"I believe you. But that doesn't change what lies ahead."
"It might not, but we will face it together."
"Sir, we need to get going. We're going to be late for your meeting with the West Coast alphas." My beta Max mind linked to me.
"Speaking of what lies ahead. I have a meeting and, as my wife, I would like you to come with me," I said, grabbing her ass, making her jump a little.
"You want me to come to a meeting with you? Isn't it too soon for that?"
"You're my wife and besides, you're going to have to come with me eventually. And just the thought of being away from you for even a minute is causing me anxiety," I told her honestly. She may not feel our bond, but I do.
"Are you sure it's a good idea?"
"Your my wife. The world is going to have to find out sooner or later. I don't see any reason for them not to find out today. Please come with me," I begged, leaning down and kissing her neck. I can't wait to mark her. She moaned softly, and the sound made my d**k twitch. I can't wait to hear her moan while I'm f*****g her.
"My Luna will be attending the meeting with us." I mind linked to my beta, delta and gamma.
"Did you say your Luna?" Jax, my Delta asked.
"That's what I said."
"Holy goddess, when did this happen?" Jax asked, excitedly.
"Last night while I was in New York. I'll fill you in later. My Luna needs clothes for the meeting and something comfortable to fly to New York in. I need the jet ready to fly back to New York as soon as the meeting is over."
"I'm on it. I just need her size," Jax said.
"Her clothes from last night should be somewhere in the sitting area."
"Got them!"
Athena's stomach growled, reminding me we needed to eat. I went to the closet and grabbed one of my tee-shirts and a pair of sweatpants from one of the dresser drawers and handed them to her.
"I know they will be big, but it's just to eat in. Breakfast is waiting in the sitting area. Some of my men are out there waiting, and I don't want you going out there dressed like this in front of them. This. Is. Only. For. Me. I said kissing down her neck all the way to her cleavage. She moaned again.
"Mmm baby, if you keep that up, we will not leave this room today. I can't wait to devour you."
"Did we have s*x last night?" she asked, looking embarrassed.
"No, you were too drunk," I told her, smiling, remembering how she stripped down for me. I think she was more than drunk last night. I'm pretty sure the guys that was feeding Athena and her friends' shots when I arrived slipped something into her drink. She was pretty out of it.
Athena was complaining about getting married and how much she hated the guy that she was being forced to marry. There was no way I was letting my mate marry someone else. I suggested she marry me instead and she said ok. I told her we could fly to Vegas and make it happen that night. I was shocked when she agreed. I thought she would back out when we started boarding my jet. But she took my hand and sat on my lap the whole flight. She kept telling me how she couldn't believe she was doing this and that her father was going to kill her when he found out. I promised her that I would protect her from her father and that eventually he would get over it. She just laughed.
When we landed, we headed to the nearest chapel and got married. I was worried she would back out at the last second, but when she said, "I do," my heart stopped. I knew she was drunk, and she might not remember. I was worried she would say I took advantage of her, and she would probably be right. Nowhere else but Vegas would let us get married being that intoxicated. But there was no way I was letting her marry whatever slim ball her father had picked for her. I don't care what he promised. Athena was mine and only mine. I will rip out the throat of anyone who tries to take her from me.
