Chapter 5

"Seriously? She knows nothing about acting, and you're choosing her over me? You're wasting my time! Don't ever call me again!" The director's words shocked everyone. The actress was the first to come back to her senses. She said angrily and left with her assistant. "Are you serious about it?" Chelsea watched the actress leave and found it hard to believe. "I'm Bryce," the director smiled and said. "Of course, I'm serious." "Maybe you should give it a second thought. I don't really want to be an actress..." Chelsea wanted to turn Bryce down. "An actress makes a lot more money than a scriptwriter," Bryce grinned and interrupted Chelsea. "Well, I'll think about it then," Chelsea immediately said. Chelsea was tempted because she needed the money now. Bryce immediately called Ruth, an intern, and asked her to prepare the contract. Then he said to Chelsea, "Let's talk in my office." Ruth ran to the front desk as soon as she left Bryce's office. "You know what? The new actress is the movie's scriptwriter!" Ruth said mysteriously to the receptionist. "What?" The receptionist looked at Ruth in shock. Then she asked, "Are you saying T.H.?" "Yes! Bryce made an offer right away," Ruth whispered. "Oh my God! What does she look like?" the receptionist covered her mouth and asked. "Didn't you see her when she came here?" Ruth asked doubtfully. "It's hard to miss a beauty like her." The receptionist remembered Chelsea, who had just asked her about the direction of the audition site. She thought that Chelsea was here for the audition. "I thought she was an actress. Who knows? T.H. is so pretty. I thought the woman who wrote such a desperate love story was probably very ugly," the receptionist said to herself. "What are you talking about?" a man behind Ruth said. Ruth was startled. She turned around and saw a handsome man looking at her. The man smiled and said, "I'm not paying you to gossip here." It was Broderick, boss of Zephyr Media. Ruth knew Broderick well, and she was not afraid of him. She ruffled her hair and said, "We're talking about a beautiful woman." "And who was that?" Broderick was interested. He quickly asked, "Where is she?" "We are talking about T.H., the writer, who turns out to be a beautiful woman. Bryce has already signed her up for the female supporting role. But they've already signed the contract, so I think she's gone," answered Ruth. Russell was standing behind Broderick. He wanted to warn Broderick, but Russell's phone rang. Russell picked up the phone. "Russell, I just got word that an actress was kicked out of 'Legend'. I want the female supporting role. Can you help?" Yamilet's soft voice came through the phone. Standing next to Russell, Broderick pretended to look around while he was listening to Russell's conversation with Yamilet. Russell pondered for a moment and said, "I can ask around." "Russell, I really want the part," Yamilet pleaded. "I see," Russell said and hung up the phone. Russell looked at Broderick and said calmly, "Yamilet can have the role, right?" Broderick spread out his hands and said, "Bryce is acting on his own again. He has already signed an actress. Next time, maybe. If a suitable role comes up, we can arrange it for her." Broderick was well aware of Yamilet's acting skills, and he had no intention of having Yamilet ruin "Legend" at all. Russell glanced at Broderick indifferently and said, "I'll cover the liquidated damages for you." "You know how good Bryce is," Broderick said, perplexed. "He's a great judge of character. I'm sure the actress he picks is cut out for the role." Russell said coldly, "If you insist, I will withdraw my investment." Broderick was stunned. "Are you serious?" Broderick didn't expect his best friend to threaten him over a woman. Russell looked determined. He looked at his watch and said, "You have one minute to make a decision." "Fine." Broderick immediately agreed. Then Broderick said, "But, Russell, have you thought about Chelsea? How would she feel if she knew you had given so much to Yamilet?" Russell frowned and fell silent. As he was thinking, Chelsea walked out. She glanced at the two standing at the front desk, having no intention of greeting them. She walked past Russell. Russell grabbed Chelsea's arm and asked, "What are you doing here?" "That's none of your concern. Is this your company? Am I not allowed to be here?" Chelsea shook Russell's hand impatiently. "Don't change the subject," Russell said. "What are you doing here?" Chelsea hated Russell's tone. She crossed her arms and looked up at Russell. "I'm here to make money, so I can pay for your suit that I've ruined, and then I'll divorce you." "What? Are you getting a divorce?" Broderick suddenly asked as he was eavesdropping. Russell's face turned sullen. Chelsea's words embarrassed him in front of his friend. He looked at Chelsea and said coldly, "You want to make money? Wouldn't it be easier for you to go back home and serve me? Haven't I given you enough allowance each month?" Chelsea slapped Russell right away. Broderick's jaw dropped. It was the first time he saw a woman slap Russell in the face. Russell was furious. He stared at Chelsea. Her eyes were red, and she looked pissed off. Russell could not understand why he felt a sudden pang in his heart. He said sarcastically, "So? Are you pissed? I'm right, aren't I? You've never worked since we got married. You won't survive on your own." "Shut up! You jerk!" Chelsea gritted her teeth. "Do you think you're the only rich man in this country? Maybe tomorrow I'll find myself a richer husband than you!" Then, Chelsea left without looking back. Broderick walked over and whispered to Russell, "Did she hear it when you were getting Yamilet the part?"
