Nathan's words drove a sharp nail into Chelsea's broken heart.
Chelsea felt her heart gradually turn cold.
Chelsea said coldly, "Do you really think Russell will like her? You are a regular at those high-end events as well. Don't you know what those daughters of rich families are like?"
Nathan snorted and said, "For the sake of the argument, let's say that you know Russell well. Then tell me. You've been married for years. Why is he still cold to you?"
"Dad, really? You don't know the answer? Isn't all this the result of your insatiable greed?" Chelsea sneered.
"Enough! How dare you talk to me like that? For God's sake, I'm your father!" Nathan flew into a rage out of humiliation.
Chelsea heard the sound of glass shattering coming from the phone.
"If you still want to see Russell at your event, you'd better not let Hayley stay here anymore. Otherwise, if Russell rejects your request, don't take it out on me," Chelsea said nonchalantly.
After she finished speaking, she tossed the phone to Hayley.
Nathan was outrageous.
He wanted Chelsea to go home immediately, but he was also worried that Russell would refuse to come to his event.
After thinking for a moment, Nathan decided to put the company's interests first.
He persuaded Hayley to come home on the phone.
Hayley agreed gently, but her face was sullen.
Hayley turned to look at the expressionless Chelsea, always having the feeling that Chelsea was laughing at her.
However, she did not want to throw in the towel. Then, she swallowed her anger.
She pretended to be complacent and said, "I feel so sorry for you. Your husband does not love you, and your father does not love you either. Nathan trusts me more. If I were Russell's wife, I would have helped Nathan better, and I would have made Russell love me. I will not be as pathetic as you."
"If you are really so confident..." Chelsea raised the corners of her mouth and smiled mockingly.
She raised her arm and made an inviting gesture. Then she said, "Go ahead. Lie n***d in his bed now."
To her surprise, Hayley was not angry.
Hayley said with a smirk, smiling and tossing her curls, "Don't worry. It will happen sooner or later. When you do see it in front of you, I hope you won't cry."
After saying that, Hayley left Russell's place, wriggling her butt.
Chelsea was once again alone in the room, and suddenly, she felt so tired.
Her gaze fell on the painting leaning against the sofa.
She recalled Nathan's scolding and Hayley's smirk face.
A surge of anger overwhelmed Chelsea. She picked up the coffee cup on the table and splashed the coffee on the painting.
The canvas was instantly soaked in coffee.
Only then did Chelsea feel less angry.
She washed the coffee cup clean and put it away. Just as she was about to leave, her phone rang.
After she saw the number on the screen, she did not want to pick it up, because it was Russell.
But then she thought of Nathan.
Therefore, she still picked up the phone.
"You are at home," Russell said. It wasn't a question, which meant that he had seen Chelsea through the camera.
Chelsea felt like she had been caught. She replied somewhat awkwardly, "Yes."
"I thought you weren't coming home." Russell sounded brisk, and he seemed to be in a good mood.
"I'm leaving now," Chelsea said coldly. "Nathan sent you a painting. He wanted to invite you to an event."
"I refuse." When Russell heard that Chelsea still wanted to leave, he could not help but be a little angry.
"Why?" Chelsea asked. Then she said anxiously, "Nathan and I are two separate individuals. Please don't take it out on anyone else, simply because you and I are getting a divorce."
"I still refuse," Russell said in the same emotionless voice.
"If so, I will tell your mother and your sister that we are getting a divorce at the family meal in two days," Chelsea said through gritted teeth.
After Chelsea finished speaking, both of them fell silent.
After a moment of silence, Russell said, "I will attend the event, but you must promise to cooperate with me at the family meal."
"No problem!" Chelsea breathed a sigh of relief. Then she said, "By the way, I ruined the painting."
Russell was not angry. He chuckled over the phone.
His voice was so pleasant to the ear that Chelsea was in a trance for a moment.
It had been forever since she and Russell had such an easy conversation.
She recalled her marriage with Russell. In fact, Russell had done everything a husband ought to do. He provided her with a good life and Nathan gained more cooperation because of him.
However, they ended up getting a divorce.
She opened her mouth, trying to say something, but before she could speak, a familiar female voice came from the other end of the line. "Russell, who are you talking to?"
Chelsea was stunned. It was Yamilet.
Chelsea's heart ached again, and her voice became cold. She said, "Then see you at the family meal. Got to go."
After that, she hung up the phone.
