First Morning Back
Rock music playing..
I wake up to my alarm going off on my phone. Moving my hands around my bed, I search for my phone. Where is my damn phone, ah yes, it is under my pillow. Quickly, I press the snooze button. Just a few more minutes. I feel extra sleepy and really don’t want to get out of bed. I close my eyes and drift back to sleep.
Rock music playing..
Ugh, fine I’m up, I think to myself and turn off my alarm. In the dark I wobble to the bathroom, which seems further away than usual. I turn the light on and sit on the toilet beginning the process of checking my text messages. Wait, why is my phone different? As my eyes adjust, I realize I’m in my parent’s house. Wait.. what?! Looking at my phone I notice it is ten years in the past. What?! I look in the mirror and see that I have some how become 10 years younger overnight. I start breathing heavy and try splashing cold water on my face. I must be dreaming this simply can’t be happening.
My phone vibrates to indicate a text message came through. I look and see Trenton sent me a message, “Hey, are you up yet?”
I texted back, “yes, I’m awake.” Then my head was flooded with memories and feelings for this current moment in time. I sit down on the floor with my head between my legs, trying to process everything. What is happening? Why did this happen? What do I do now? I feel like I’m experiencing a head rush from the information and questions making it impossible to prevent from throwing up.
After a few minutes, another alarm goes off on my phone. Oh crap, this is the final alarm that reminds me I need to get going to school. Well, I better get ready to go and see if I can figure anything out. I have watched a lot of time traveling movies and there is usually some sort of lesson to be learned. I just know I can’t tell anyone because people would just think I’m crazy. Last thing I want to experience right now, is being sent to a psych ward.
After a few minutes I’m finally dressed and packed for school. I remember that I’m able to use my mother’s car and I grab the keys off the hook. This still doesn’t feel real but I don’t know what else to do.
While driving to school I can remember there’s barely a couple weeks left of school. I can’t seem to remember what makes today so special for the life of me. Maybe there will be more clues when I get to school.
After parking in the student parking section I grab my backpack. I look down at my phone and see that I received another text message from Trenton, “awesome, my friend Kyle is going to be at school today shadowing me during my classes and I want you to meet him.” Of course! This was the very first day I met my husband.
I reply back, “okay cool.” My heart is pounding with excitement but I didn’t want it to be obvious to Trenton. As a result, I walk as fast as I can to school. We were not high school sweethearts or anything but this was the very first day I met him. The thought of seeing him again made me feel a little less scared.
As I put my backpack in my locker, I hear Trenton’s voice behind me. “Good morning, Serenity.” I turn around and see Trenton standing there with Kyle next to him. Trenton is a little shorter than Kyle with blond hair and slim build.
“G.. g.. good morning,” I stutter nervously. I can’t keep myself from blushing.
“Are you okay?” Trenton asks me.
I respond, “yes, I’m okay just still waking up.” Trenton smiles and turns his body to introduce Kyle.
“This is Kyle, my friend that I was telling you about. He is going to be staying with me for the next two weeks. So today, he is hanging with me as I go to classes. I was able to get him a visitor’s pass.” Trenton appeared very proud of himself for getting his visit approved. Kyle is a little taller than Trenton with brown hair and muscular build. Wearing his black hoody, I can tell he was going through a difficult time.
“Hi Kyle, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” I say with a big smile. He looks at me with a neutral expression when he replied.
“Hi,” Kyle said with a neutral tone of voice. My heart hurt so much for him. I remember this was a difficult time for Kyle. I wanted so much to hug him and be close to him.
“So, are we going to be hanging out after school?” I blurted out to Trenton.
“Yeah! We can totally do pizza and video games at my house.” Trenton expresses with excitement.
“Okay, cool I’ll see you guys after school.” I reply.
“Sweet! See you later Serenity.” Trenton says as he starts walking away. I catch Kyle’s gaze before he turns to follow Trenton. I flash the warmest smile I could while matching his gaze. The school bell rings breaking our gaze. Oh no, I’m late. I quickly grab what I need and rush to class.
Sitting in class I can hardly focus, my mind just keeps going through flashes of memories. Okay, what else can I remember about this time in my life. I know Trenton has a crush on me and I just broke up with my boyfriend Leon recently. I felt a tap on my shoulder bringing me back to class. I turn around and see it was Chloe, my best friend, who tapped me. She has a worried expression on her face and whispers, “are you okay?”
I shake my head yes and whisper back, “yeah, just a lot on my mind.” She looks concerned and writes a note asking me if there is anything she can do. I write back and let her know I’m fine. Switching gears to inviting her to hang out after school for pizza and video games at Trenton’s house. She smiled when reading the invite and wrote back confirming she was totally on board.
