Harper’s POV Cade’s command confuses me, especially after he was so insistent that I learn his drink preferences. “Have I still not been making your coffee the way you like it?” I ask apprehensively. “No, it’s been perfectly adequate,” he replies coldly. I shrug in confusion. “Then why do you want me to stop?” He sighs heavily and the veins in his temples flare slightly. “You can stop reporting to me altogether for your tasking,” he says harshly. “Just do the job I pay you to do.” I answer, “But-“ “I no longer require any assistance from you,” he snaps, his bloodshot eyes burning furiously into mine. “You’re dismissed.” He takes a sip of his coffee and I notice the raw, damaged skin covering his knuckles.
