Harper’s POV Evan and I sit together in silence while the busy restaurant steadily buzzes in the background. I don’t know what could lead him to ask me about Cade, but I really wish that Evan didn’t know me so well. “Why…um…why do you think we would have history?” I ask, trying my best to regain my composure. “Well, I can’t pretend I haven’t heard all the rumors about you sleeping with him,” he says, lowering his voice. “And I know you would never just hop into some random gangster’s bed so I thought you might have known him from somewhere else.” Tiny beads of sweat are forming along my hairline and my heart feels like it might stop completely. I don’t want to lie to my friend, but I definitely can’t tell him the truth either. Not that I think he would spread more gossip about me, Evan
