(Season 1) CHAPTER 33 Kalen leaned back, eyes locked intensely on Kai as he spoke with confidence and assurance "We're going to get her back, and we're going to make them pay," he said, his tone flat, matter-of-fact, his brother's confusion was palpable, he could see it etched on his face, but he didn't care, didn't bother explaining further, his patience wearing thin. " Don't you think we should all... "he cut Kai off with a serious look. He leaned forward, his eyes narrowing slightly, his voice taking on a hint of irritation. "Do what I asked you to do," he said, his voice unyielding, unemotional, the finality of his words hanging in the air like a challenge. His words clipped, Kai hesitated, unsure, but the look in his eyes was enough, he nodded, turned to leave, the cold command hanging in the air, unspoken, but understood...... When Kalen noticed the hesitation he frown with a growl that bearly came out. "Don't make me say this again" His voice was a low growl, his words a curt directive, Kai nodded, understanding washing over him, he turned to leave, the silence between them thick with unspoken understanding, the only sound, the soft click of the door shutting behind him. Kalen gave every one their assignment and they were all gone, he had Jae taken to some where she can not escape. The moment the door closed, the room fell silent, the only sound was the soft thumb from the pen he was slowly tapping on the table. He leaned back, his eyes fixed on some point beyond the wall, his mind racing, planning, calculating. He knew his brothers would do as he asked, he knew that much, so there was nothing to worry about the rest....he would handle himself. the calm before the storm, the stillness before the chaos. His thoughts were a whirlwind of strategy, his eyes narrowing as he mentally played out scenarios, his fingers drumming a silent beat on the armrest, a habit he thought he'd long broken, the tension in the room almost palpable, the air thick with anticipation, and then, his phone buzzed, breaking the silence, his eyes flicked to the screen, a flicker of interest, quickly suppressed, he picked it up, his voice low. "Yes?"The voice on the other end spoke, his eyes narrowed, his expression unchanging, but his grip on the phone tightened, just slightly, the pieces were falling into place, he listened, his mind racing, processing, his voice low. "Good, keep going" he said, his words a whisper of approval, the plan was unfolding, just as he'd envisioned. He ended the call, his eyes fixed on some point beyond the wall, a plan taking shape in his mind, his fingers stitched together, a steeple of calculation, his voice barely above a whisper, "It's time," he said, more to himself than anyone else, the words hanging in the air like a promise. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Michael leaned against the wall, eyes seemingly fixed on the view outside the window, his expression neutral, a mask of calm interest. Sophie moved about the room, gathering items, her movements efficient, but he wasn't fooled. There was something she wasn't telling him, the fact that she suddenly choose to come to him of all people to help her with her revenge plan, was still a shock and quite suspicious. He noted the slight hesitation, the faint flick of her eyes towards him, checking for reaction as she poured in two glasses of wine. His face remained impassive, a practiced blend of focus and distraction, he was watching, silently weighing every move, every breath, his doubt hidden, locked away, waiting for the truth to surface. She moved closer, a smile playing on her lips, he met it with one of his own, a mirror reflection, his eyes circling at the corners, but inside, the gears turned, calculating, verifying, her words, a hum of background noise, he wasn't listening, not really. "Here!!... Let's celebrate in advance" she said offering him a glass of wine with wide smile that does not seem to fade at all. "Yeah" was all he said and accepted the wine..... He leaned back, expression thoughtful, still watching her, his eyes lingering on her face, searching for the slightest crack in her composure, her movements fluid, focused on the task at hand as she went through the cameras for any update. But he wasn't buying it, not entirely, his doubt simmered beneath the surface, hidden behind a mask of calm cooperation, the air thick with unspoken questions, and he was the observer, waiting for the right moment. Michael wasn't stupid enough not to know when something was wrong or not..... She glanced up, caught his eye, a flicker of... something, he didn't react, just held her gaze, a silent understanding passing between them, or so it seemed, his mind working overtime, parsing her expression, her body language, looking for the tell, the sign, the slip-up that would reveal her true intentions, but her face was a mask, calm, determined, mirroring his own, the game of cat and mouse continued, neither giving an inch. "is there something on my face" she asked With a small smile. Her sudden question didn't make him flinch, didn't look away, just a slight raise of his eyebrow, a soft, almost imperceptible pause, before he smiled, easy, natural. "Just thinking," he said, his voice low, even, the lie slipping out smooth, his eyes cr crling at the corners, a hint of distraction, nothing more, his focus still on her, intense, watchful, but his tone, casual, dismissive, as if he'd merely been lost in thought. She raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement, "About?" she asked, her voice light, curious, not pushing, just checking, he noted, his expression shifting, thoughtful, a slight nod. "The plan," he said, his gaze drifting back to the papers on the table, a deliberate move, drawing her attention, redirecting the focus, his voice even, "We need to be sure we're covered on all fronts, kalen's not a fool you" he added, a hint of distraction, his mind still on her, watching, waiting. She nodded, seemingly buying it, her attention snapping back to the papers "You right but don't worry about that... I've got that covered. He would surely fall into this trap" she answered confidently. The clock ticked away, the tension between them building, unspoken, as they worked, their movements synchronized, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that she was hiding something, a nagging doubt, gnawing at him, he pushed it aside, focusing on the task, but his senses were on high alert, every nerve ending tuned to her, waiting for the tell, the sign, the slip-up that would give her away, as the stakes grew higher, the game became more intense. After a while his men rushed in to inform them that Kalen had arrived but he came only. Michael and Sophie glance at each other in confusion...... This wasn't the plan at all. TBC 😍 😍
