Chapter Eight

Hugo’s POV Today the bed seemed very cozy. Perhaps it was because I had used up all of my body's energy appeasing the Alpha. Day three had passed, and I was thankful for how far I had made it. Maybe I should be grateful for the Alpha’s heat since it was buying me enough time to come up with a plan. “We aren’t leaving” My inner wolf spoke against my thoughts. “We have to, if we wish to prevent our heads from being cut off from our bodies” I replied. My gaze shifted to the bare spot on the bed. She hasn't slept in her bed in two nights. She always left the room after we had s*x to take care of business and returned after I woke up from my slumber. Does she ever sleep? Where does she sleep? I wondered. Her light aroma that permeated the linens had grown on me. I was troubled by the fact that there were still a ton of unanswered questions. Even though I was relishing our exchanges on the bed, the table, the sofa, and the floor, I was also anxious about the days ahead. There was a constant battle between my wolf and I when it came to Alpha Talia. My survival during her heat felt dependent on pleasing her, but I was becoming so caught up in it that I kept forgetting the ultimate outcome. My demise. The door sprung open, and Alpha Talia stood by it, staring at me. She’s here to f**k again, the thought excited me. Despite my desire to leave this mansion, I could not ignore the s****l tension that existed between her and me. I immediately rose from the bed and slid my robe down. Her lips curled into a smile. "It's time to eat, little claws" She said folding her arms. My eyes glanced down to her torso and the wolf in me reminded me of her taste. My mouth instantaneously watered. "Food. I . . . cooked dinner tonight. Get dressed and come into the dining room" She said sternly. I got ready quickly and arrived at the table. She had feast prepared for just the two of us. My eyes gazed to her cleavage and her pink n*****s which bloomed through the shear dress she wore. I sat down quietly next to her. We started eating silently until I couldn't keep quiet anymore. I needed my questions answered. If I was dying, I’d rather die knowing the truth. "Permission to speak?" I asked her raising both my eyebrows. She took a bite out of the chicken and nodded. "When.. are you going to kill me?" I asked curiously. "It depends" She answered vaguely. "A heat cycle could last weeks, so in two weeks?” I shot back. "It doesn’t work like that" she answered again. “What doesn’t work like that?” I questioned. “Eat” She growled. "I think I have a right to know when my execution date is" I pressed. "Do you like the chicken?" She asked out of the blue. "Huh?" Confusion engulfed my face. "Do you like it?" She asked calmly gazing at me. I stared at the chicken and then at the table. She was doing something nice for me. She cooked for me tonight. She uttered a brief grunt as she stood up from her seat. "No wait," I spoke before she could leave. "I love it. Thank you for this wonderful meal...Alpha" "I'll be in the room." She turned and left. I stared at her as she walked away. It was very rarely Alpha Talia ever showed some compassion. But one thing was clear. She was warming up to me. Now all I have to do was kill her when she least expected it. My thoughts came to a halt when someone entered the dining room. Again, I was surprised at the lack of scent that made it harder for me to recognize who it was instantly. But after a quick glance, I realized it was Frieda. “I gotta commend you, Talia never cooked for any of her other pets. You must be quite special” Her remarks made me nervous yet relieved. “I still managed to piss her off” I murmured as I gazed at the delectable food that was sitting on the table just partially eaten. “Well, she’s always in a mood so I’m sure you’re not only to blame” Frieda approached me and sat down next to me. Her eyes were dark brown, and she had dark red wavy hair. Her appearance was quite similar to Alpha Talia. It is plausible to assume that they are somehow related. However it was considerably trickier to maneuver the notion when Frieda's human and Alpha Talia's not. Maybe that's not what I ought to be contemplating right now. I could attempt to escape right now if Alpha Talia is in her room and I'm with a human by myself. Maybe I could kill Frieda or use her as a leverage to escape this mansion. I briefly closed my eyes before calling upon my wolf; hesitantly, I felt the tips of my fingers morph into claws. If you're considering escaping, I strongly advise against it, Frieda said right away. “Why? You’re going to scream? I’ll kill you before you can open your mouth” I replied, allowing my wolf to break free. But somehow my body withheld it from happening. I could see a yellow glow in Frieda's eyes as if she was causing it. “Yeah, you misheard what I said. I’ll help you escape, but you can’t escape now. The second you start running into the woods, Talia will catch up to you and kill you instantly. You'll have to wait until tomorrow, when she leaves the mansion to go to the summit.” Frieda stood up from her seat. “What do you mean, you’d help me escape?” I asked her. “I know all about you, loner boy. You shouldn't have to suffer death at the hands of such a monster as Talia. Just be ready by midday. On the fourth day of her heat, she always makes her way to the summit. That’ll give you enough time to escape. Now go before she gets ultra-mad” She uttered the words and left the room with a grin on her face. I leaned back the chair with my heart racing and wondered if she was bluffing. I didn’t trust Frieda but I was intrigued by her plan and ultimately I did agree with her statement. I didn’t deserve to die, period. I’ve survived much worse to die at Alpha Talia’s hands. “We aren’t leaving” The wolf in me repeated the words like a mantra. “Oh yes we are” I whispered with a smile.
