Chapter 9

As soon as she heard it they both froze.  He slowly pulled away from her and they just looked at each other, both panting and sweating. She knew that came from in her head, but what made him react as if he heard it? “Did you hear that?” “I didn’t hear the same thing you did, but I heard my own wolf. It’s almost time.” He said with a smile. Her eyes got wide. “What?! You mean? So I can hear my wolf?” “Yes. What did she say?” She felt her cheeks get hot and looked down. He put his fingers to her chin and lifted her face up to his “What did she say?” “She...she said ‘mate’" he smiled again. “Because she senses my wolf and they are dated to be together. Unless one of us were to reject the other...that bond can never be broken.”  She could sense her wolfs joy at hearing those words from Kono. She felt her joy. She couldn’t believe how content she was with this man who she still knows so little about. She wanted that to change. “I want to know you” she said. “I want to know everything there is to know about you. What you like, what you don’t like; I want to know what your favorite meal is. If I am to spend my life with you, I want to know who you are. More than just our wolves bonding. I want to know who Kono really is." He laughed and she had never heard such a laugh. It was a genuine laugh and it lit up his whole face. “Do you have the time?” he said, motioning for her to sit under the tree with him.  They sat down and they talked. She would ask him a question, he would answer and then ask her something. They did this back and forth for what seemed like forever and no time at all, all at the same time. “I’m scared” she admitted from out of no where. He looked at her puzzled and with a little worry. “Scared of what? You have nothing to be afraid of.” “I’m scared it will hurt, the change I mean. I’m scared it will hurt and that I will be all alone.” He put an arm around her, pulling her close. “You have nothing to be afraid of. I will not tell you that it will be the most comfortable experience, but I can tell you it is quick. I can also tell you, you will not be alone. I will be there with you.” “How will you know it’s time? We can’t spend every second together.” “Who says?” she gave him a ‘yea right’ look, he gave another small laugh, “don’t worry I’ll know, and if I’m not with you, I’ll find you.” She looked into his eyes and knew he was telling the truth. She knew that he would always be there for her, she felt it all the way to her soul. “It’s getting late, let’s get back.” They stood, dusted themselves off, and started for the trees as he reached out and intertwined their fingers. She smiled and leaned her head onto his shoulder as they walked back.
