Claimed by the Enemy

The softness beneath Natalia’s back was the first thing that drifted into her consciousness. It was warm and incredibly plush, a stark contrast to the cold, wet forest floor. She slowly opened her heavy eyelids, squinting against the soft amber light filtering through the room. She was lying on a massive wooden bed draped in thick, luxurious snow-leopard furs. Her simple white dress had been replaced with a clean, soft tunic, and the burning fire in her veins had cooled to a dull ache. The scent of cold pine, snow, and a faint hint of sharp tobacco filled the air. Natalia’s heart spiked. She sat up abruptly, her purple eyes scanning the room. The chamber was large, carved directly into the black mountain stone, decorated with heavy iron weapons and wolf furs. It wasn't the Silver Fang Pack. The air here carried a completely different, darker resonance. The heavy iron-reinforced door creaked open. Natalia recoiled, scrambling to the corner of the bed and clutching a leopard pelt to her chest. Caleb walked in. Without the mud and storm of the previous night, his towering frame was even more intimidating. He wore a simple black leather vest that exposed his heavily scarred, muscular arms. His crimson eyes had faded to a deep, dark brown, but the sheer predatory intensity in them remained unchanged. "You're awake," Caleb said, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that sent shivers down her spine. He set a wooden bowl of steaming herbal broth on the bedside table. "Where... where am I?" Natalia whispered, her voice trembling. "Who are you?" "You are in the Blood Moon territory. My name is Caleb," he replied, leaning his hip against the heavy wooden table, his arms crossed over his chest. Natalia’s breath caught. *Blood Moon.* The silver-silver wolves' ancient, bloodthirsty enemies. Before she could process the terror, the heavy doors of the chamber burst open. Brandon, the pack’s guard captain, marched in, accompanied by Elder Raymond. Brandon's eyes immediately locked onto Natalia, his face hardening. "Alpha!" Brandon growled, pointing a finger at Natalia. "Why is this intruder still in your chambers? Our scouts found her carrying the scent and token of the Silver Fang Pack. She is a spy sent by Kaelen!" "She has no wolf form, Brandon," Elder Raymond countered, his voice dripping with academic disdain as he inspected Natalia from a distance. "She is a shifted-less weakling. But harboring anyone from the Silver Fang is a threat. She must be thrown into the dungeon for interrogation, or hanged at the border." Brandon drew a long, silver-tipped dagger from his belt, taking a step toward the bed. "I will take her down myself." Natalia shivered, pressing herself harder against the stone wall. She had fled Kaelen's cruelty only to face a dungeon and execution here. "Step back, Brandon," Caleb said. His voice was quiet, but it carried a razor-sharp edge. Brandon paused, but his anger got the better of him. "Alpha, with all respect, this is about the pack's safety! The Silver Fang has been pushing our borders. We cannot let their trash—" "I said," Caleb growled, his eyes suddenly flashing a dangerous, warning crimson. "Step. Back." The temperature in the stone room plummeted. A suffocating, black Alpha aura exploded from Caleb, slamming against Brandon and Raymond like a physical wave. The sheer force of his command was absolute. Brandon’s knees buckled, his face turning pale as he was forced to drop his dagger and drop to one knee, panting under the weight of his Alpha's wrath. Caleb stood up, his massive shadow completely covering the kneeling guard captain. "Let me make this clear to you, and to the rest of the pack," Caleb spoke, each word heavy with absolute dominance. "She is my mate. I have claimed her. Whoever touches her, touches my throat. If I see a blade drawn near her again, I will rip your head from your shoulders myself." Elder Raymond’s eyes widened in shock. "Your mate? But Alpha, she is shifted-less! She cannot shift, she cannot lead, she cannot—" "Get out," Caleb interrupted, his voice returning to a cold, dangerous calm. Brandon scrambled to his feet, grabbing his dagger, and quickly backed out of the room along with a pale, trembling Raymond. The heavy doors slammed shut behind them. The room returned to silence. Natalia stared at Caleb, her chest heaving as she tried to reconcile the terrifying monster from the forest with the man who had just defied his own pack to protect her. Caleb walked back to the edge of the bed, his dark eyes locking onto hers. He reached out, his thick, calloused fingers gently catching her chin. His touch was firm, possessive, but surprisingly warm. "Why..." Natalia’s voice cracked. "Why did you do that? You don't even know me. I have no wolf. Kaelen rejected me because I am useless." "Kaelen is a blind fool," Caleb whispered, his thumb lightly brushing her lower lip. Before she could pull away, Caleb’s other hand gently grabbed her right hand. With a quick, sharp movement, his claw pricked the tip of her index finger. "Ah!" Natalia winced, trying to pull her hand back, but Caleb’s grip was like steel. A single drop of purple-tinted, shimmering blood welled up on her finger. Caleb brought her finger to his lips, his tongue tasting the drop of blood. Instantly, a deep sigh of satisfaction escaped his throat. The faint tension remaining in his features vanished completely, and his eyes cleared to a bright, calm brown. The power of her blood was even stronger than her scent. He released her hand, looking down at her with a dark, predatory smirk. "Your scent quieted my beast, and your blood heals my curse," Caleb said, his voice low and vibrating with intent. "You are no useless wolf, Natalia. You are the key to my survival. Stay by my side, be my Luna, and I will help you tear the Silver Fang Pack to pieces."
