The heavy wooden gate of the Blood Moon fortress cracked under a massive explosion of light. Four high-ranking Sanctuary Paladins, armed with heavy silver-bladed halberds, charged through the breach, their holy magic forming a glowing, golden barrier. Behind them, Kaelen lunged forward, his silver-plated war blade swinging toward Caleb’s throat.
Caleb fought like a wild beast, his midnight-black wolf paws tearing through shields, but he was outnumbered. The holy chains thrown by the paladins wrapped around his muscular shoulders, pinning him to the blood-stained earth.
"Yield, Caleb!" Kaelen shouted, his golden eyes flashing with a mad, desperate triumph. "Hand Natalia over, and your pack might survive!"
Atop the watchtower, Natalia stood at the parapet. She looked down at Caleb pinned in the dirt.
Suddenly, the white-hot heat in her blood reached its peak. The cold iron wristguards Caleb had given her hummed violently before cracking under a massive burst of silver energy. The pieces fell to the stone floor. Natalia closed her eyes, letting the silver light take her over.
A blinding pillar of golden-white light shot from her body, piercing through the crimson clouds and hitting the blood moon above.
The entire valley fell silent. The clashing of steel stopped. The warriors, both friend and foe, looked up at the watchtower, shielded their eyes from the brilliant, divine illumination.
From the heart of the light, a low, melodic howl resonated, shaking the valley. It wasn't the aggressive roar of an Alpha, but a pure, ancient sound that vibrated in the bones of every shifter.
The light collapsed.
In its place stood a magnificent, colossal beast. She was twice the size of a normal Alpha wolf. Her fur was as pure and white as fresh winter snow, glowing with a soft, ethereal light, and detailed with elegant, glowing gold runes that traced her spine and face. Her eyes were two pools of brilliant, liquid gold.
She was the Saint Wolf. The True Luna.
The white wolf looked down at the battlefield. With a single, graceful leap, she launched herself off the ten-meter watchtower.
She landed in the center of the courtyard, right between Caleb and the approaching paladins. The impact created a massive shockwave of pure, white-golden energy.
*Boom.*
The holy barrier of the paladins dissolved instantly. The silver chains holding Caleb shattered into fine dust. The dark, toxic silver poison in the air was swept away, replaced by the clean, sweet scent of winter freesia and cold spring water.
Then came the pressure.
A wave of ancient, primordial bloodline authority radiated from the white wolf. It was the absolute power of the First Luna, the mother of all shifters.
In the courtyard, Brandon’s knees buckled. He dropped his sword, falling to his knees and bowing his head in pure, instinctual reverence. Behind him, the fifty Blood Moon warriors dropped one by one, their heads touching the dirt. Across the gate, the Silver Fang warriors screamed in panic as their wolf-spirits forced them to their knees, their bodies trembling under the absolute authority.
Even Caleb, now free of his chains, bowed his massive black head, a low, respectful whine escaping his throat.
In the center of the gate, Kaelen stood trembling. He fought the pressure, his legs shaking violently as he stared at the giant white wolf. The gold runes on her fur glowed like stars. Her liquid gold eyes looked down at him with an absolute, god-like indifference.
His wolf spirit inside him shrieked, demanding submission.
With a harsh gasp, Kaelen’s knees hit the wet mud. He knelt before the girl he had discarded as trash, his golden hair plastered to his face, his mind completely blank.
The True Luna had awakened.
