Introducing Sarah
"You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen," he paused. "Sarah, you know we are meant to be, right from heaven; our souls have been made one." He gently touched her pixie curls. Sarah looked up to him; he was at least 6 feet tall, caramel skinned, with curly hair and ocean-like eyes. She felt safe whenever she was with him. She moved closer to hear his heartbeat; the smell of him filled her nostrils. He smelled like roses. He started touching her hair as she leaned onto him. He always loved touching her hair and would always tell her how beautiful it was. Sometimes they'd pray together, sometimes pray in tongues. She was lost in thought when she heard a distant voice calling out to her "Sarah, Sarah!" The voice grew louder. She turned, and her mother shook her awake. "Sarah, wake up! Do you want to miss your flight?" Sarah sat up, reluctant to leave the dream. "Good morning, Mum," she said, her voice husky. "Good morning, my love. I made bread and tea; it's on your side table. Eat after bathing." "Okay, Mum." Her mother's eyes pleaded. "I'm sorry I won't be able to take you to the airport; I'm on shift this morning." Sarah hugged her. "It's fine, Mum. I'll miss you." Sarah had secured admission to Harvard's nursing program, following in her mother's footsteps. "It's okay, Mum," Sarah said, her voice trembling. "I'll be back soon, by God's grace; I'm not going to get married or am I? ." They burst into laughter. "Let me book an Uber for you," her mother suggested. "Okay, Mum. Thanks." "I'll leave you to prepare then," her mum said, departing from Sarah's room. Sarah knelt down to say her morning prayer as soon as her Mum left, speaking in a language only the Holy Spirit understood. “Sarah, hurry! your Uber is here” Sarah’s Mum urgent voice echoed through the hallway Sarah made the sign of the cross and whispered “God be with me” in her room before she rushed out, her pixie curls bouncing as she ran down the stairs. “I’m coming Mum” She replied, struggling to squeeze her Bible into her small purse, Mrs David’s eyes widened “Oh dear, you can always get a new one on campus” “No Mum, this bible was my birthday gift from Dad” She paused as if she was having so many thoughts going on in her head before she added “I need it with Me” “Oh okay Darling, then hold it in your palm hands instead of trying to force it into your purse” Sarah Mum said with a soft smile, showing her beautiful dentition. Sarah just nodded in agreement with her, Her mum assisted her in carrying her luggage, She would have escorted her to the airport but she had to head back to work She hugged her and told her “God will protect you as he always has” “Amen” Sarah entered the blue suv, Mrs David (Sarah’s Mum) stood at the entrance of their duplex watching the car move.. The flight from Chicago to Harvard was 3 hours trip, Sarah held on to her bible as she played gospel songs in her headphones, in everything she does, Jesus must be involved “Oh you must be Sarah” A dark skinned girl said, she had very long hair and mesmerizing eyes “And you must he Priyanka” Sarah said admiring the beautiful lady in her front “Oh no, just call me Pri” she said and added a laugh, and she looked at Sarah from head to toe making Sarah feel uncomfortable “I love your hair Sarah, are they natural? ” Pri asked as she moved closer to where sarah was “Of course” Sarah said as she blushed “Wow you’re one lucky girl aren’t you” Pri said as she moved and touch Sarah’s hair, Sarah smiled and said “never touch a black lady’s hair, but I’ll let you”they paused for few minutes and bursted into laughter “Okayyy, so come on in” Pri said, it felt like she just realized that she stood at the front of the door the whole time, being an hindrance to Sarah’s entry.
