Grayson
"Grayson, try not to blink." said Colin.
Shawn is the third man on the ring. Something he said to Les seem to have put her in a trance. She is focused on her opponent, I can feel the intensity from her eyes, but her face betrayed no emotion. To the untrained spectator she would have this unimpressed, bored appearance, but to me, I can almost hear her brain working at the rate of a thousand thoughts per second.
The match started when the bell rang. The large timer on the gym wall started counting down from 3 minutes. Even if I wanted to, I cannot even blink, Colin did not have to tell me.
The big guy started stalking her. Dammit why won't she move? I am willing her to move and not stay stationary. She's sitting duck out there.
She ducked the first few punches and moved out of the way. She got in a shot which does not look that much powerful but the guy's cheek started to swell bad. and that's when things went south.
It took 5 men to hold me back when she went down, but in a few heartbeats, she rolled out of danger and before anyone can realize what she was intending to do, she whipped the leash from her leg to the guy's neck, and raised her hand so we know she's done.
A flurry of bodies jumped into pile on the big guy but he already let out a punch that knocked Les out. She was not able to fully get back in defense position. Everything seems to be in slow motion as Shawn was not fast enough to get in between them, bodies filed on top of the big guy and I somehow freed myself to get to my mate.
In a split second, Colin and eye were on either her side and a medic came in to check on her. She came to right away and the medic was flashing light on her eyes doing the basic checks.
"Les, do you know where you are? Do you remember what happened"
It took a second or 2 for less to focus. "Yeah, I won."
Les got on her feet and asked me "Take me to him".
"No" It was my wolf.
She ignored me and went over to her opponent who was chanting "I'm sorry" over and over.
"Get off of him!" She helped him up. "You okay?"
"I'm so sorry ma'am I did not mean to.." His voice was cracking
"We're good... Good game. Don't sweat it. Thank you for not pulling your punches." She offered her hand to shake.
The big guy was staring at Les like she got two heads. but shook her hand while the other hand went to his leash. "Wow. I did not even feel this."
I swept Les off and carried her bridal style. "I am taking you to the infirmary. You are getting scans to be sure everything's ok. You will not fight me on this."
I can tell Les was angry for what I did but being the smart girl she is, she just nodded.
The doctors did the scans and x-rays and show no extensive damage, though her face and side will be bruised but that's the extent of her injuries.
"The doctors said you can leave now." I told her as I sat beside her on the hospital bed.
"Great! I wanna go home. I'm so hungry!" She gave me that small smile.
"You really scared me today, kiddo."
"I'm sorry. I promise you, there is a reason for all these. Please do not get mad at my family or Shawn. They are doing what is best for me. It may seem unorthodox to you but to me, it's helping me keep my sanity. I can explain more but I'm afraid I'm going to pass out of hunger soon" she nudged me with her elbow.
I let it go. For now. Our bond is strong, yet just as fragile. There was a fat silence so she broke the ice.
"Umm, Grayson, can you please call a nurse to help me change?"
"I can help you" I wiggled my eyebrows at her.
"Fat chance, you perv! Not here. You will... eventually.." She let her voice drop and smiled suggestively. Goddess that's all she had to do and I'm already turned on. I had to get out before I take her here on the hospital bed.
I let out a groan and went out to find a nurse. Les is complicates. She's not like any other women I have met before. There are moments when she has let her guard down, just like last night and before.
Les walked out of the room, fully dressed. I can tell from her steps that her side is bothering her. My initial instinct is to carry her and fuss over her, but I am sure as hell she will not have that. If I want to make this right I have to respect her and give her space.
She took my hand as we walk in silence and that simple gesture is making my heart go leaps and bounds.
"Grayson, we're here. You have to let go of my hand so I can freshen up before meeting with the others." I did not want to let go.
"Can you manage? My offer to help still stands..."
She chuckled lightly. "I got it. I'm not a baby. Now go to the meeting, we can have food served there. Our trip to the infirmary has already delayed our schedule. I told you I don't need scans, but you insisted so I decided to humor you. Now we have pressing business matters to attend to. I'll be there as soon as I can. I think I've proven to you I don't need to be coddled, right?" Dammit, she just know the right things to say.
"Ok. Fine. It's just I can't stay away. I'm sure you've seen how this mate-thing goes"
"I know. How about this. Let's hurry up and wrap up business as soon as we can, then after dinner, maybe we can let your wolf out for a run and then talk some?"
Drake was howling in my head. "How can you be so perfect?" I placed a small kiss on her head and I walked away.
