Chapter 2

Everyone was busy going about preparing for the arrival of our guest. We often have visits from Alphas from around the world because of our business. We develop and manufacture weapons against the supernaturals. Weapons against wolves, vamps, ghouls - you name it, we have it! Dark Wood Pack has been looking to purchase some. Apparently, they are having a lot of rogue attacks. News also of rougues teaming up with vamps are all over. They also want an alliance with our pack. We may be small, our entire pack is not over 500, but more than half of those are well trained warriors. I heard Dark Woods has great warriors as well, and Colin is thinking of accepting an alliance with them, which is not totally sold to me. I fail to see what they can offer my pack that we already do not have.

I was busy drafting a letter to one of our suppliers when Greta my assistant came barging in my office.

 "Why aren't you answering your phone? Your mother is calling for you as our guests have arrived"

"What? They aren't due until five..." I glanced at my watch "Holy crap! Mother's going to kill me!" I dashed from my office as fast as I can until I reached the front door. Just as I was about to reach the front door and my mother is exchanging pleasantries with our guest. Nobody informed me that we will have Adonis himself visiting us! Then that's when I heard it.

"MATE" Adonis said. It's just in his head, I think he mind linked it to his posse as they whipped their head to him, then to me. And yes, I can hear thoughts. That's one of my gifts. If someone would think "loud" enough, I deffinitely can hear it too.

"f**k".. I muttered. What the hell! This could not be happening! The last thing I wanted is a werewolf to claim me as mate. I am happy where I am. I felt fear, then anger, but I did not show it on my face. I willed my heartrate to slow down and allowed my brain to work into overdrive.

"And you must be..." s**t. I did not notice him coming closer. He is standing inches from me.

"Attorney Les Carter . Pleasure to meet you Alpha Grayson" I extended a hand for him to shake which is totally my mistake.

He took my hand and placed a gentle kiss on it. I felt electricity fun from my hand to my core but I ignored it. I withdrew my hand and went behind my mother.

As soon as I saw her, an unknown force propelled me to come closer. I needed to get more of that scent that smells like vanilla and peonies. It's not too feminine, just... Perfect.

"And you must be..."

"Attorney Les Carter. Pleasure to meet you, Alpha Grayson" The way she said my name is driving me mad. She offered her hand to shake and I cannot help myself placing a peck on it. Just as quickly, she pulled away and was running to her mother.

I never heard Colin ever mentioning a sister, and LES CARTER? The Les Carter? The pain-in-my-ass Les Carter who has been fighting me on paper these past few months? I thought Les was a guy!

"Alpha Grayson, you must be tired" It was the Luna "Please follow me to your quarters so you and your warriors can get squared away"

"If you do not mind, I have urgent business to discuss with the Alphas, and they can go ahead without me" For some reason, I had this great sense of urgency.

"Alright. This way please" Luna led the way and my warriors followed closely behind.

"Alpha Grayson, let's take this to the office, then." Alpha Norris, Alpha Colin and our respective Betas and Gammas all march into the office when Norris suddenly halted our small procession. "Celestine, where do you think you're going? You know you have a big part of this as I do"

Everyone looked at my Mate, and for the first time, I get to study her. She is barely 5'4 to my 6'2". Ebony hair that's bunched up in a bun. She has a small heart-shaped face, but those damn glasses are hiding her face way too much. That's when it hit me. Her eyes, her face. Didn't she feel the mate pull? Her expression, stoic. I tried to listen to her heartbeat and it is going a slow, steady pace. Isn't she affected? Not even a bit? And her eyes, I cannot tell what she's thinking, or feeling. I got to know more about her.

"Very well Father, let's get this over and done with" Her tone - even, clean, COLD. She walked past me and into the side of the manor that houses their offices. We passed a few doors and came to the last one at the end of the hallway that opens into a huge library going into what I am assuming is the Alpha's meeting room. There's a round antique looking table in the middle that seats 10, but it has intercoms and screens and projectors. Ancient-meets-modern vibe.

Everyone take a seat, Alpha Norris at the head of the table on a throne-looking chair, to his right my mate. I would have taken the seat beside her but I do not want to creep her out. Her secretary, a she-wolf took the seat to her right. Colin sat at Norris' left side and right across Norris, I took my place. along the walls of the meeting room are chairs for the betas, gammas and guests that are to spectate on the meetings. On one corner of the room, I spot an elderly looking she-wolf that I am assuming is the scribe.

As soon as everyone is settled, I started my agenda. "Alphas, as you may know, my visit is for two important order of business. First, my intent to form an alliance between our packs, and second, to finalize the logistics of the weapons we intend to purchase. However..." This part, I have to thread really carefully. At the corner of my eye, I could see my Beta, Adam slightly shaking his head as if to stop me. I cleared my throat. "It has come to my attention, I may have a third purpose that is of utmost importance.."

Alpha Norris raised an eyebrow at that. "Speak..."

"I am here to claim my Mate, your daughter, Les Carter". Audible gasps and growls were heard in the room. Colin Stood up and I can tell he is fighting his wolf from coming forward. I looked at my mate's expression and there it is again, the same passive, stoic face devoid of any emotion. What happened next was totally unexpected.
