Chapter Two
Hazel's POV
The feeling of dejection in my heart was suddenly replaced by excitement and curiosity, of course I haven't met with my boss face to face but who the hell in New York hasn't seen a picture of him? I was walking to the altar to marry him, me! I suddenly felt hot and needed to breathe. I could t believe my eyes nor my luck. Crystal's face froze seeing I wasn't marrying an old man as she had predicted but a dangerously handsome rich billionaire.
Kai was also shocked to see me walk up to him on the altar but was quick to mask with with a smile. We said our vows and in less than an hour, we were officially married. I was over the moon as it meant I would be free from my parents and stepsister, well technically; Olivia wasn't my Mom and I just refer to her as that for Dad's sake. The reception was a grand one with some important people in attendance and we barely invited people since we thought I was marrying an old man.
After the whole ceremony was done, my parents said their goodbyes and Crystal didn't wait behind. I drove in a luxurious car to a more exquisite and luxurious mansion and all through, the groom didn't bother to speak to me. We were welcomed by a fleet of workers and maids, we were also ushered into a well furnished room which I guessed to be the master bedroom and he went straight into the bathroom to probably freshen up.
I took my time to take.in the beauty that surrounded me and I was really excited, it was taking him so long that I fell asleep. The next time I opened my eyes, I was alone and the maids brought me lunch, I ate alone in the bedroom a sumptuously decent meal and when I asked of Kai, they were too shaken to reply and only avoided the question.
Later that night, he came back home and I was shy to speak to him. He was not only handsome up close but also attractive, I felt a sense of familiarity between us, like I've known him for ages.
"Hi." I greeted, shyly.
He looked at me with a blank expression and shook his head. There was a moment of awkward silence between us.
"First time getting married eh? I'm as nervous as you are, isn't there meant to be something like a handbook or guide?" I said, jokingly in order to relieve us of the tension.
He snorted and ignored me.
"I've had a long day, let's get some rest." He uttered.
His voice sounded silky and musical to my ears, though I had changed into a more comfortable pyjamas, I quickly mounted the bed as well, lying beside him wearing a huge smile. He switched off the light and opted for a dim red one that set the romantic atmosphere. For the first time ever, I was ready to give myself to a man, hours ago I was confused and had sworn to be celibate but now I was curious and looking forward to spend the first night with my husband.
"I don't know how this happened or why but it is expedient that you that all this was a mistake, I didn't want to marry you not even in my wildest dream." He began, solemnly.
I chuckled.
"What are you talking -"
"Crystal, the proposal was for Crystal and I should have done it personally but I was just too busy and didn't want to come on her too strong, the fool I sent must have mistaken you for her and now I'm married to you." He interjected.
"What do you-"
I swallowed the rest of my words as he sat up and looked at me dead in the eye.
"Your sister is the one I want to marry and not you and now I'm stuck with you, I'm saying all these so you'll know your place, do you understand?"
"But I don't -"
"I have few rules and you'd do us both a favor by adhering strictly to it, I have places to be by morning. Have a goodnight."
My heart fell hearing this words and for a minute I found it hard to believe, my head spun around and I instantly felt dizzy, my chest suddenly began to hurt and I stared at his sleeping figure. I'd thought this was another shot at life for me, but I was met by a subtle violence from my husband. I found it hard to sleep and only slept when he stirred and accused me of glaring at him.
When I woke up the next morning, he was gone. We didn't have a proper breakfast together but rather, he left a message with the maids and said to take good care of myself. This stirred a hope in me that he cared about my well-being. Since I had taken out few days off from work, I stayed back and relaxed, the entire day; he was no where to be found but he came back late at night and brought gifts with him, a beautiful dinner gown and a pear necklace.
We had dinner together and he spoke softly to me which is a total contrast of our previous discussion last night. The days that followed, he was nice and caring towards me and this warmed my heart seeing that no one ever treated me with such kindness and intentionality before. I found myself slowly getting attracted and entitled to him. Though he barely spoke to me, I was determined to make the marriage work and put in all efforts.
Days rolled into weeks and I resumed work as usual but this time more confident and committed as the CEO was no longer a distant person but my husband and I'd sneak in food and lunch to his office as he had settled in after we got married, he'd complain about me having to go through all the stress but never for once has he rejected the food hence I continued living with a purpose; to please and help my husband and I'd give up anything to accomplish just that.
My one night stand with the stranger finally got clarified as I stared at Kai up close as he slept and realized he bore uncanny semblance with the stranger and I was shocked to know it was him but I held back that piece of information, scared he'd take it wrongly.
"Positive." I mumbled as I stared back at my reflection in the clear mirror that stood in front of me.
My heartbeat increased as it pounded loudly against the walls of my chest. I'd been feeling dizzy and nauseated recently coupled with the fact that I threw up three consecutive times after eating and the realization that my period was three months late, curiously; I took a simple pregnancy test which affirmed that I was in fact pregnant.
"I'm pregnant." I muttered to myself and instinctively began to caress my tummy, I broke into tears as a sudden joy washed over me knowing that I was carrying another life inside of me and the fact that Kai was going to be a father. To be sure; I hailed a cab to a hospital where the Doctor confirmed that I was three months pregnant.
Kai had travelled for an important business trip and won't be back for another three days so I decided to set up his office with that surprise so he'll be excited to know I'm carrying his child. I made a little video explaining how we met and the situations surrounding it and also proof of my pregnancy in a flashdrive and placed it among his files.
As I rushed out of his office to make more preparations, I bumped into my stepsister who was quick to slap me across the face.
"Have you lost your sight after whoring yourself away to some rich dude?" Crystal insulted, loud enough for everyone to hear.
I snickered and tried to leave but she blocked my path. She tried to push me away and hit my tummy in the process so I slapped her so hard that she fell.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" A loud voice thundered.
I looked up to see Kai walking briskly towards us, my lips curled in a smile as I was about to welcome him but instead I felt a sting on my face.
Kai slapped me.
