As I sighed while on the balcony of the school, my classmate Aminah approached me. "That's a pretty long sigh, Grace" I looked at her and sighed again. "Woah girl, what's the problem?" she asked worriedly. "It's just...... were graduating in less than 2 years and nothing has happened to my life" and again I sighed. "What do you want to happen to your life? life will only happen when you decide what you want" as she leans on the guardrail. "Wow, when did you become a philosopher?" I sarcastically said. "Ha-Ha, funny" I can hear her annoyance "I'm being serious" "Fine, let's say your correct. How am I gonna Direct Movies so that they can become Box Office Movies if I don't even know how to portray different kinds of feeling myself?" He just gestured, I don't know and smiled. "Tsk. I thought you'd help me resolve my problem. You just wanted to say something that'll make you seem smart" I was about to walk away. "Why don't you come with me to the drive-in theater tonight?" I looked at her, a bit excited. She smiled, like she already expected my reaction "The movie tonight is gonna be awesome" I went straight home and changed. Short sleeved Gray shirt, Black jacket and Jeans. Hair pony tailed, ear piercings and my most comfortable boots. As I approach Aminah's car, she looked dissatisfied." Ohhh, that's why no man is hitting on you because of how you dress yourself up" "What's the problem with my clothes, it's pretty cool." She scuffed while rolling her eyeballs "Whatever, let's go" As we approach the drive-in theater, it was refreshing and it lifts my spirit. "I'll fix the trunk up, buy us the usual" I just nodded and went to a food stall just at the very back of the drive-in. This is the only stall here and the stall person is also the owner of this drive-in theater. "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. How are you?" The owner said smiling. "I'm fine Mister, just been busy with College. Good thing my friend invited me to come here" "That's good, you'd love the movie tonight. If I'm not mistaken, you love mysteries" "Wow, my friend really knows me". "Oops, I ruined the surprise. Sorry about that" He chuckled. "It's fine, I'll just pretend that I didn't hear it from you" I said then I smiled widely. "Deal, I'm sure it's the usual right" "Yes" "Here, one Footlong, one Caramel Popcorn and two extra big Sodas" as he handed me the order. "That was fast, Mr." "The moment I saw your friends car, I already prepared it. She doesn't come here with anyone else, so I was sure it'll be the usual". "Thanks very much then, Mr." as I handed the payment. "Your welcome, enjoy the film" and I walked back to where we parked. When the trailers before the movie started another car arrived 'Is that a 1970 Ford Maverick' I muttered to myself. The movie was so cool but the car was cooler, that it took almost my whole attention. 'Hey' Aminah called to me, it was almost silent to my ear. "Hey!" she called to me again. "What?" I was startled when I realized she was calling out to me. "I know that your a big fan of old cars, but can you watch the movie first. I'll wait for you later, when you check it out after the movie, okay". "Really?" She nodded. "Thanks, your really almost the bestest friend I can ever have". "What's with the almost" she grimaced "Well, you are a bad influence sometimes" I laughed. "Point taken" she rolled her eyes "Can we just watch now, the movie is about to start". "Yes, ma'am" she just smiled. I was to focused in the movie, that I didn't even noticed the time. I looked at the car and it was still there. "Can I go now?" I asked excited. She just gestured go. "I might take awhile?" I asked, asking for permission. She rolled her eyes, as if it was to be expected. I just smiled widely and walked fast towards the car when I noticed a man walking just at the other side of it. He was tall, nice posture and pretty sure he has a great build too. Without thinking, I followed the man under the theater screen. The credits continues to slide, it was to dark under it. 'Where did he go' I muttered to myself. As if it was in a triller movie "What are you doing here?" a calm yet a voice so strong said as he emerges from the shadows. Even though the light is so little, I can clearly see his perfectly shaped jaws and gorgeous nose. Lights from those living and arriving cars keeps passing by, that helps me determine his build. I was right, even though he's wearing a thick turtle neck sweater and a coat, I can see his chest shaping it. Finally the last car passes by, the trailers play to tell that the movie is about to start again. Light that continues to change color beamed down through the lines of the stand and directly hits his eyes, I can't completely tell his eye color. He was already so close when a long white light hits his eyes, his pupil slowly shrinks to show an ash green with a splash of golden brown Iris. I was mesmerized by how he looks at me, I feel like his trying to tell me something by just looking into my eyes. "Who are you?" I shuddered when he spoke again, its like his taking a hold of my soul with just the use of his voice. "Grace" I did my best to slowly and clearly say my name without cracking my voice because of my nervousness. He looks at me more intently, as if trying to read what's on my mind. "You should leave" He suddenly said. He turned around and walked back to the shadows. I was stunned in my place, the shadow he stepped into slowly diminished. I went back to where Aminah is and went home. A day had passed and I can't seem to think straight, I can't get him out of my head. 'I want to meet him again' it's already 5pm I should go. "I have to go somewhere" I said to Aminah. "Wait I thought we're having dinner at my house?" "I'll go next time, okay" I was about to step out of the bus "Please open up for me, so I could meet him again" I was about to approach the stage when I saw a thick shadow that shouldn't be there cause there is still light in the horizon. "I knew it" As soon as I stepped in the shadow, I found myself in a place that looks like a park. Street lights from the old days, the pavement was made of clay blocks. 'Where am I?' I muttered. I was confused but at the same time amazed. I was nervous but also excited. Until I heard footsteps, as it gets closer I hid myself behind a tree. It's him. "Show yourself" he commanded. I didn't know what to do nor say. So I just showed myself to him. "You? Why are you here?" he looked confused. "I... I... wanted to meet you again, so I went back to the drive-in cinema while... there is still sun light in the horizon for me to see where you entered" Another set of footsteps can be heard not far away from where we are. "Shhh" she covered my mouth while dragging me behind the trees. I understand why he covered my mouth, so I did my best to stay quiet. After he had made sure there was no one else that can spot us, he removed his hand and said "I'm sorry about that". "It's okay" "Can you trust me?" He asked. I had no choice but to do so and nodded. "Follow me and make sure to be as quiet as possible" he said intently. On the way to where his bringing me, I saw things that shouldn't even exist. I wanted to ask so badly, but I didn't want to cause unnecessary attention towards us, so I just followed him as he asked. It took a while before we arrived to our destination. "Stay here in the meantime" I looked at him hesitant to ask. "I know you have a lot of questions. Let's go down first" He lifted a door for a secret passage under the table. It was made so that it won't be easily found. It was a room, as I stepped down in the room. He sprayed me with something, and he continued to spray until at the top of the stairs of the secret passage. "What's that for, it doesn't even have a scent" I said while sniffing it. "For you it doesn't but for my kind, it does. It's to remove your human scent, for at least a day." He sprayed a bit more on me. "Why do you even have to spray that on me?" I asked even though I think I know why, I just want to make sure. "Because humans are rare here, and some of our species, treat humans as a delicacy". "Hmm" while grimacing and lifting my shoulders as if agreeing. It was to be expected, they are not human after all. He was staring at me, like he was curious but at the same time amazed. "Your quite different, Grace" I can clearly hear his amusement towards me in his tone as he smile. "You mean, I didn't panic like what you had imagined?" he nodded. "I'm the one who came after you. If I panicked and made a fuss out of it, wouldn't I make more trouble for you?" He smiled again. "Can you please explain now?" he nodded and gestured to sit. "Wait before that, may I ask for your name?" "Jeson, my name is Jeson" he formally bowed and sat. "First, when you followed me. You came in through a portal, that portal only opens when we are in need of supplies that can only be found in your world". "2nd, this is" he continued to explain about this world and how they live their lives here, that time here is slower than in my world, 1 year is only a day in my world and that we are literally living an day longer. How I can cohabit with the other species and lastly on how I can avoid being found as a human. I was again in a rollercoaster ride of emotions, "Why do you look like that?". I was leaning in my hand and was smiling widely. "Why can't I, I'm literally living in a fantasy" "Come with me" before stepping on the 1st step, he sprayed the liquid on me again. "Just to make sure". Then he smiled. I was taken aback, I already saw his smile before yet this time I was closer to him. I think my heart skipped a bit, is this what they call falling for someone? We came outside "shouldn't I be staying inside your home to make sure I won't be found out by your people?" I asked. He smiled again with a hint of mischievousness. This is kind of alarming, is he really a man I can trust. "Just don't answer casually, let me answer if anyone ask you something" he said. °~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~° "How many times have I told you that you have to complete the task they have given to you, so that you can proclaim emancipation from the whole clan" my sister shouted. "And I have said so many times that I don't want to. If I have to be shackled to this tribe for the rest of my life, so be it" I answered impatiently. "Is that so" a husky yet deep voice said coming from the entrance door. As he slowly walks to where we are and his footsteps echoes around the house, he said "Then I shall sanction you from entering the tribe library, no tribe shall divulge your presence and you shall be cut from provisions". I was infuriated by what he has said, but I can not let my anger control me or my sister may also face the consequences. My sister kneeled down to him "Elder please, not the provisions. It may cause him his life" my body is trembling with anger. I can't believe I have allowed my sister to face such humiliation. "He has at least a year before it becomes fatal" he grinned with amusement. Is he really enjoying tormenting my only family. He was about to walk out when my sister grabbed a hold of his clothing. "But if he leaves our realm, that year will be shortened" she tearfully said. He looked back at her face "I already have given him so many chances, so he shall make do of this another chance I have given him" He faced the door and pulled his sleeves from my sisters grip. "But be mindful that this will be last". I kneeled down and hugged my sister "I'm sorry sister, I have never imagined that he could do this". My sister cried as she hit me "I have told you so many times not to underestimate the Elders, our father may have been the previous Elder but he had died a long time ago". "But I'm not the only one who has turned their back on this task" I said as I clench my hand. "You are the son of the previous Elder, a legatee. You are one of the most powerful entity in our realm, this task is inevitable for this is your duty to our clan as one of the future heir" she pressed onto me. I nodded as I said "I understand" I have no choice, they may punish my sister too. "I will do this for you sister. Can you help me?" She breath in relief "Yes, I will go out as soon as the sun disappears from the horizon" I was waiting for my sister to come back and as soon as she arrived, I stepped out of the portal to the human realm. When I saw whom she has pointed out to me, I completed my task and walked back as fast as I can. I had already stepped in the portal when 'Where did he go' "Sister someone might have followed me" She just nodded, cause we both knew what is needed to be done. I have to make sure to erase that persons memory. I already saw her back so I asked what a normal human would say in this situation "What are you doing here?" I asked. I was silent by her beauty, I was already walking closer to her when I realize what was happening to me. "Who are you?" I can tell that she's nervous but there was no hint of fear. "Grace" she said clearly and slowly, she made sure I understood. Her voice made me think that I, also have a soul. But I know what can and can't happen. "You should leave" I firmly said and stepped in the portal while she was stunned on her feet. Is it okay to let her remember me, but I can't even ideate her forgetting me. 's**t' I just made another mistake. I went to our Elder and gave permission to look into my memory but made sure that only the memories I want them to see. In a week I was proclaimed emancipated and the sanction given to me was lifted. A year had passed and I haven't forgotten about her. I know in her world the year I have spent is only a day to her. The Elder went to visit another clan, for that it's impossible to open the portal. I know that it's closed and it's impossible for her to get through it, but I just can't shake this uneasy feeling off of me. I was already at the park when I heard rustling and a whisper 'Where am I' this can't be true. The voice was nostalgic, it can't be possible. I walked towards the direction where I heard her voice. "Show yourself" I said encase I was wrong. She stepped out from behind the tree, oh how I miss her face. But I can't show my true feelings "You? Why are you here?" She answered my question as fast as she could when I heard footsteps from a distance. I grabbed on to her, covered her mouth and dragged her behind the trees "Shhh" As soon as I have made sure no one else is in the perimeter, I asked her if she can trust me and she only nodded. "Follow me and make sure to be as quiet as possible" as we walked into an alley and quietly pass through streets to get to my home, I was amazed how she patiently followed what I asked of her. I opened our secret sellar and asked her to come in. Theirs a lot of things happening to her yet I haven't heard any complains from her nor even a bit of fuss, I even explained to her everything and it only lit her eyes so bright. I just can't help but smile. I was convinced that it's safe for her to go outside, so I sprayed onto her my fathers scent remover again. It was used by my father when he was still alive. Before he became the Elder, he was tasked on collecting provisions at that time. To avoid chaos from the scent that has clang onto him, he has to spray this everytime he returns. I told her to come with me and she asked me an obvious question that made me smile and it just affirms me more that she wouldn't be easily found out. "Just don't answer casually, let me answer if anyone ask you something" I said. Days had passed since we started walking around the village, when someone approaches us. I answer them that she is a visitor from another clan. She already gets along with the villagers. Everything is still safe as long as the Elder and his helpers are still away, my sister is also one of his helpers. We were at the library when she saw the portraits of the Elder and the previous Elders. I told her whose the current Elder, Iwas about to tell her whom my father is when someone approached us. "And who is this lovely lady" he smiled and held Grace's hand and gently kissed it. Damn you, I haven't even touched a strand of her hair. I was greatly annoyed when I suddenly realized that I have touched her lips, held her shoulders and even hugged her. I think my face turned red. Good thing she wasn't paying attention to me but that also made me dejected. Rhion, my childhood friend was smiling in amusement as he looks at me, while Grace was looking at her hand and was obviously uncomfortable. I took her wrist to remove his hand and gestured him to back of without making it obvious to Grace. When I looked at her, she was red while looking at my hand that made me pull out my hold on her wrist and made the situation awkward. As I look back to Rhion, he was doing his best to withhold his laughter. "You can walk in front of us, we'll follow you. Just walk slowly, okay" she was still bright red but nodded and smiled. I felt like I was lifted up in the air by just her smile. "So, Grace huh" and I was pulled back down to reality. 'Tsk' I clicked my tongue. He laughed again. "You have to send her back to her world as soon as possible" I was startled when he spoke, that made me look at his face and his eyes sent shivers to my spine. He was serious, I know that I can trust him but. "You know that I will do anything to make sure that another sanction shall never be placed unto you ever again, if I have to kill her, so be it" he is in love with my sister and was furious when he heard what my sister did just for me. I understand where he is coming from but is killing even justifiable. "Please Rhion, just a few years is fine. Then I will send her back to her world and erase her memories" I implore unto him. Before he fell in love to my sister we were already like brothers. I just hope that's enough for him to let her stay here for a few years. "Months, only a few months" he specifically press the months. "You know the danger if humans find out how time works in our realm and if you care about her, it should only be weeks" I looked at him confused. "You fell for a human yet you know nothing about them" I was perplex by his statement. "Can you just tell me what you mean!?" I tried my best to stay calm but I was starting to get annoyed. I don't even understand why I'm getting annoyed. "If she acquire a great deal of memory and you erased it when she is about to come back to her realm, it could damage her brain. Even though she is in our realm, she is still just leaving a longer period of time of her life. That means, you are removing months of created memory within a short time and the ramification will only show when she gets back to her world." I looked at her. "It's safer to remove her memories on her realm, so that the removal of the memory won't affect her but someone will surely look for you" I understood what he means. I just realized how thoughtless my action were. I was to fascinated by her, that I didn't even think about the consequences of my action and it's effect on her. I just looked at her and followed her every action. °~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~° We were walking for quite a while when someone approached us. As he walked towards us, I felt a great presence from him that felt like gravity pulling me down. "And who is this lovely lady" he said and smiled like he was impressed by something. He reached out to my hand while he formally bowed and kissed my hand that made me really uncomfortable. I was just looking at his hand still holding my hand when Jeson took my wrist to remove the mans hand that it took me by surprise. I think I have a fever, I can feel my face burning up while I look at his hand still holding my wrist. Then suddenly he pull out his hand that made me a little disappointed. "You can walk in front of us, we'll follow you. Just walk slowly, okay" I can still feel my face burning, so I just nodded and smiled. I turned around slowly and walked, I did my best to not skip. Even I don't know why my body wants to skip. I can hear them talking but can't quite make out what they are talking about until I realized that they have stopped. I peaked at Jeson, and I saw regret in his eyes that made me turn my head upfront. Did something happen, is he regretting that he had let me stroll, is he regretting meeting me or has the man his talking to found out who I am. I have to make sure that it doesn't show on my face, I have to act casually. I was trying my best to relax and enjoy the majestic scenery that was shown to me by this fantasy. However, the more I tried to relax, the more anxious I get, till he slowly walked towards me. As I look towards his gorgeous face, I didn't want to accept what I already know would happen next. But I wasn't able to hold back. The moment our eyes met, I smiled and said "Thank you for this wonderful experience" I saw in his eye and at the man behind him the astonishment from what they just heard. °~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~° 'ce.... race.... Grace' as her voice gradually becomes clearer. An image flashes through my memory, "I'm sorry" the man said with a calm yet so strong voice. I found myself sitting down and leaning on the stands. "Grace" Aminah said and yet again the voice of the man echoed through my head saying my name with amusement. "This experience shall be forever a fantasy" the tone greatly changed from amusement to full of pain and remorse. "And you shall forever forget about me" his words made me burst out of tears. It felt like a hole was plunged into my chest. It took awhile before Aminah was able to walk me to the car. I know she wanted to scold me but instead did her best to comfort me by just holding my hand while she drives. She helped me to my bedroom, she slowly aided me to sit down on the bed. I already stopped crying but still in a daze "Are you going to be okay" she patiently asked. It took a few moments before I was able to nod. "I'll check up on you tomorrow" she said with hesitation and concern. I nodded again then she left hesitantly. I tried my best to remember the man in the memory, but the more I try to remember the more the images gets blurry and the more it hurts. The next day, Aminah came and asked why I didn't go to school. I didn't answer, instead I asked how he found me. She said she gave it to the owner so that he could update her on the films. Days had passed and Aminah keeps checking up on me, bringing me food and reminding me of school. Night came again, I heard a rustle at my window. I run towards it 'why did I even run?' After a week of being in a daze, I just stopped trying to remember. I went to school and did my best to catch up to what I have missed. But I can't smile. No matter what I do, No matter how funny a joke is, I can't smile. Everytime I try to smile, it feels like someone is digging up the hole in my chest. A month had passed and Halloween is approaching. Everyone was excited preparing their costumes. We were at the mall checking out some outfits for the halloween. "You should wear this" Aminah pointed to a black dress with black detailed wings and black and purple flower as a crown. It made me smile. Aminah saw my reaction and said "It's decided then" and smiled. I just nodded, the costume made me nostalgic but to what? The next day, we decorated my home for halloween. She also decided to stay at my house for the night. Morning came and we gave away candies, it was busy and fun but still can't smile. I wore what we bought the other day, I just added black stockings, put some holes in it and a comfortable sandals with laces. That nostalgia again made me smile as I look into the mirror. We went straight to the festival, the venue this time was the Drive-in theater. We were strolling along the food stands when I heard his voice "We're gonna be able to stock up a lot of provisions this time without any hassle" I ran towards his voice. "If it was always like this, we wouldn't even have any problems" I heard another mans voice and a scene flashes by my memory. "And who is this lovely lady" I was stunned for a moment. Till I heard their voices again. I was already under the Drive-in theater stands when I saw his back. The man with him was startled by the sight of me. "Hey Rhion, are you okay" at the sound of his voice, all the memories flowed back. And the last image in my head was his face filled with pain and remorse as he says "I'm sorry". I lost my strength and my knees slowly gave out that made me sit on the ground. I was just looking at him, with a feeling of relief. "Thank you, thank you" tears keeps flowing through my eyes. When he heard my voice, he turned his head towards me. I was looking at him as tears flowed out of my eyes. He looked back at Rhion, and the man shook his head and tried to stop him. I was still looking at him "Thank you for not being a dream nor a fantasy" the man was shocked and suddenly changed his gesture from stopping Jeson to pushing him to come to me. As Jeson walked towards me "Thank you for being real" I said. The man called Rhion just smiled. Jeson knelt down and hugged me. "I'm sorry for leaving you in the dark alone." I hugged him back. "I understand" "I promise, I have never forgotten our encounter" "I couldn't forget about it either" °~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~° Without even noticing, someone was lurking in the shadows that was formed by the lights of the festival. A great danger is brooding to happen.
