OPPOSITE ATTRACT ( PROLOGUE)
Prologue
Some people believe that love begins with a perfect first meeting.
A beautiful smile.
A romantic sunset.
A pair of eyes meeting across a crowded room.
Mia Santos never believed in any of that.
She believed love was supposed to be fun. Messy, unexpected, and a little crazy. She believed that if two people were meant to be together, somehow life would find a way to put them in the same place at the same time.
Adrian Reyes believed the exact opposite.
To him, love was a distraction.
A weakness.
Something that made otherwise intelligent people behave irrationally.
He had built his life around control. His career came first. His responsibilities came second. Everything else could wait.
Especially love.
Mia was twenty-four when she first learned that the best things in life rarely happened according to plan.
She was the kind of woman who could walk into a room five minutes late, apologize with a smile, and somehow make everyone forgive her.
She talked too much.
Laughed too loudly.
Changed her plans at the last minute.
She loved spontaneous road trips, rainy afternoons, cheap coffee, old movies, and conversations that lasted until sunrise.
Her friends often told her that she needed to grow up.
Mia always laughed.
"Maybe someday."
Adrian was twenty-nine.
He was everything Mia wasn't.
He woke up at exactly six every morning.
He planned his days down to the smallest detail.
He hated being late.
He hated unnecessary noise.
And he especially hated people who treated serious situations like jokes.
His friends jokingly called him a machine.
Adrian never corrected them.
Being a machine was easier.
Machines didn't get hurt.
Machines didn't miss people.
Machines didn't fall in love.
For years, their lives moved in completely different directions.
Mia chased experiences.
Adrian chased success.
Mia believed that life was meant to be lived.
Adrian believed that life was meant to be controlled.
They had nothing in common.
At least, that's what everyone would have thought.
But sometimes, two people don't fall in love because they are alike.
Sometimes they fall in love because they are different.
Because one person brings color into the other's carefully organized world.
Because one teaches the other how to laugh again.
Because one shows the other that being vulnerable isn't the same as being weak.
And sometimes...
The person who annoys you the most becomes the person you can't imagine living without.
Mia and Adrian were about to discover exactly that.
Their story wouldn't begin with flowers.
It wouldn't begin with a romantic dinner.
It wouldn't even begin with a smile.
It would begin with a mistake.
A very small mistake involving a cup of coffee.
And neither of them knew it yet, but that coffee would be the first chapter of a love story neither had planned for.
A love story between two people who were never supposed to fall for each other.
Two completely different hearts.
Two completely different worlds.
One unexpected love.
This is the story of Mia Santos and Adrian Reyes.
This is the story of how opposites attract.

Chapter 1
The Wrong Coffee
Monday mornings were Mia Santos's personal enemy.
She had tried, several times, to convince herself that Mondays were just misunderstood.
She had failed every time.
At seven forty-five in the morning, Mia hurried through the glass doors of the café downstairs from her office, her hair slightly messy from the morning commute and her handbag hanging from one shoulder.
She was already late.
Again.
Her phone vibrated in her hand.
Lena: Where are you?
Mia typed while walking.
Mia: Almost there.
Another message immediately appeared.
Lena: You said that twenty minutes ago.
Mia smiled.
Mia: Technically, I'm almost there.
She put her phone away before her best friend could respond.
The café was unusually crowded.
People stood in line holding phones, laptops, and coffee cups, all wearing the same exhausted expression.
Mia joined the crowd and glanced at her watch.
7:48.
"Please," she whispered, looking toward the counter. "I just need coffee."
Coffee wasn't simply a drink to Mia.
It was emotional support in a paper cup.
After a few minutes, she finally spotted her order sitting on the pickup counter.
A large iced caramel latte.
Exactly what she had ordered.
She hurried toward it.
"Finally."
Without checking the name on the cup, she grabbed it.
She took a long sip.
Her eyes widened.
"Oh, wow."
She smiled.
"This is perfect."
She took another sip as she turned around.
And walked directly into someone.
The collision wasn't hard, but enough to make the man step backward.
Mia immediately lowered her cup.
"I'm so sorry!"
The man didn't answer.
Instead, his eyes went straight to the cup in her hand.
Then to her.
Then back to the cup.
Mia followed his gaze.
There was something strange about his expression.
Not anger exactly.
More like disbelief.
"Is there a problem?" she asked.
He looked at the cup again.
"That's mine."
Mia blinked.
"What?"
"My coffee."
She looked down.
Then she looked at the name written on the cup.
ADRIAN.
Silence.
"Oh."
The man held out his hand.
Mia stared at it.
He stared at her.
She looked at the coffee.
Then back at him.
"Okay."
She handed it over.
"I'm sorry."
He accepted the cup.
"Thank you."
His voice was calm.
Cold.
Mia watched him turn around.
Something about him bothered her.
Maybe it was the way he spoke.
Maybe it was the fact that he hadn't smiled even once.
Or maybe it was simply because she was embarrassed.
"You're welcome, Mr. Sunshine," she muttered.
The man stopped walking.
Slowly, he turned around.
Mia's eyes widened.
She immediately pretended to look at the menu.
He stared at her for several seconds.
"Did you say something?"
"No."
"You did."
"I was talking to myself."
"You called me Mr. Sunshine."
Mia pressed her lips together to keep herself from laughing.
"Did I?"
"Yes."
"Hmm."
She nodded seriously.
"Maybe you should smile more."
His expression didn't change.
"I don't have a reason to."
Mia raised an eyebrow.
"That's sad."
He looked at her as if she had just spoken another language.
"Have a good day."
Then he walked away.
Mia watched him leave.
"You're welcome, Mr. Personality."
She smiled to herself.
She had no idea who he was.
She didn't know where he worked.
She didn't know why he looked like he had personally declared war on happiness.
And she certainly didn't know that she would see him again.
Very soon.
---
By eight fifteen, Mia finally reached her office.
She hurried toward her desk, dropped her bag onto the chair, and immediately sat down.
Lena looked at her from across the desk.
"You look like you fought a bus."
"I almost did."
"What happened?"
"Coffee."
Lena sighed.
"Of course."
Mia leaned back in her chair.
"I accidentally took someone's coffee."
"And?"
"He was rude."
"Was he handsome?"
Mia paused.
"That's irrelevant."
Lena grinned.
"So he was."
"I didn't say that."
"You didn't have to."
Before Mia could respond, their manager stepped out of his office.
"Everyone, conference room. Now."
The office immediately became quiet.
Mia glanced at Lena.
"That doesn't sound good."
"It never does."
They followed everyone into the conference room.
Mia took a seat near the back.
Their manager, Mr. Santos, stood at the front holding a folder.
"I have an important announcement."
Mia leaned toward Lena.
"If he says we're working overtime, I'm resigning."
Lena covered her mouth to hide a laugh.
Mr. Santos continued.
"We've secured a major partnership with Reyes Digital Solutions."
Mia sat up.
That name sounded familiar.
"We'll be working closely with their development team for the next six months."
The conference room doors opened.
Several people entered.
Mia barely looked up.
Until she saw him.
The man from the café.
Her eyes widened.
No.
Absolutely not.
He walked toward the front of the room with the same serious expression.
Mr. Santos smiled.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Adrian Reyes."
Mia slowly sank into her chair.
Adrian's eyes moved across the room.
Then stopped.
On her.
For the first time that morning, something changed in his expression.
Recognition.
Mia smiled awkwardly.
Adrian stared at her.
Then at the coffee cup sitting on her desk outside the conference room.
His eyes returned to hers.
Mia silently mouthed:
Sorry.
Adrian's jaw tightened.
Lena leaned toward Mia.
"Do you know him?"
Mia whispered back.
"Unfortunately."
"What did you do?"
Mia sighed.
"I stole his coffee."
Lena stared at her.
Then at Adrian.
Then back at Mia.
She struggled to hold back her laughter.
Mia covered her face.
This was going to be a very long six months.
And somewhere in the back of Adrian Reyes's mind, a thought appeared that he immediately tried to dismiss.
Why does she make me want to smile?
He didn't have an answer.
Not yet.
Neither of them knew it.
But this was only the beginning.
