Chapter 2 — The First Team

833 Words
The year was 1920. Morning sunlight covered the streets of Silverwood City as students rushed toward St. Solaris Academy, one of the most famous schools in the country. The academy was known for three things: Discipline. Sports. And defense training. Large stone buildings surrounded the massive campus while students in white and black uniforms filled the grounds with noise and excitement. Sam walked silently through the school gate with his bag over his shoulder. But his mind was still disturbed by last night’s dream. The Red Moon. The Fire Dragon. Satin. Everything felt too real. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” Suddenly someone bumped into him. Books fell across the ground. Sam looked up. A girl with silver hair quickly picked up the books with an annoyed expression. “You bumped into me first,” Sam replied calmly. The girl rolled her eyes. “My name is Selena.” Without saying anything else, she walked toward the medical building. Sam watched her for a moment. For some strange reason, she felt familiar. Before he could think more about it— “YO SAM!” A loud voice echoed behind him. An energetic boy came running toward him. Storm. One of the best athletes in school. “Did you finish the defense assignment?” Storm asked. Sam shook his head. “I forgot.” Storm laughed loudly. “Then you’re finished.” At that moment, the school bell rang. Students quickly moved toward the main sports ground. The principal stood on a large platform while teachers lined up behind him. “Students!” the principal shouted. “Today begins your Annual Combat Team Assessment!” The students immediately became excited. Behind the principal stood a massive training field filled with obstacles. Tall walls. Rope bridges. Mud pits. Training weapons. And at the center of the field— A giant iron flag. “Today’s task is simple,” the principal announced. “You must form teams of eight students.” Sam suddenly became silent. Eight. For some reason, that number felt strange to him. “You must cross the obstacle field, protect your teammates, and capture the flag before sunset.” The principal raised his voice. “Without teamwork, victory is impossible.” Immediately the entire ground became chaotic. Students started forming groups everywhere. “Join our team!” “We need one more member!” “Come quickly!” Sam quietly stood alone. Then suddenly someone stopped in front of him. Selena. Standing beside her were several other students. Storm. Sylor. Stone. Solaris. Shadow. Soulen. And one more silent student standing in the back. Sam stared at all of them. Suddenly his heartbeat became faster. For some strange reason… They all felt familiar. Selena crossed her arms. “We need one final member.” Storm smiled confidently. “You look strong enough.” Sam looked at all of them silently. Different personalities. Different backgrounds. But somehow… Standing together felt natural. “Fine,” Sam answered. A teacher walked toward them holding a registration book. “Team name?” Everyone looked at each other awkwardly. Storm laughed. “How about Team S?” “Terrible,” Selena answered immediately. Sylor laughed loudly. “What about Shadow Warriors?” “Too dramatic,” Shadow replied. The teacher became impatient. “Hurry up.” Silence filled the group for a few seconds. Then Sam quietly said— “Eclipse.” Everyone turned toward him. Storm smiled. “Actually… that sounds cool.” The teacher wrote it down. “Team Eclipse registered.” At that exact moment, a cold wind passed through the field. Sam suddenly held his head. A strange vision flashed inside his mind. Eight shadows standing beneath a blood-red moon. Fire. Ice. Lightning. Darkness. Then the vision disappeared instantly. “Sam?” Selena looked at him carefully. “Are you okay?” Sam slowly nodded. “Yeah…” But deep inside him… Something was awakening. Something ancient. The competition finally began. Dozens of teams rushed into the obstacle field. Team Eclipse immediately started moving together. Storm took the lead. “Move fast!” Students climbed walls. Crossed ropes. Jumped through mud pits. Sylor used his speed to scout ahead. Stone helped weaker students cross obstacles. Selena treated injured students using basic medical supplies from her bag. Teachers observed them carefully from towers above the field. “Interesting team,” one teacher said. Another teacher slowly nodded. “They move like they’ve worked together for years.” Meanwhile… Far away from the academy… Inside an abandoned church… Red candles burned in the darkness. Ancient symbols covered the walls. A hooded figure slowly opened his eyes. In front of him stood a black mirror. Inside the mirror— Sam and Team Eclipse could be seen. The hooded figure slowly smiled. “The reborn wizards…” His glowing red eyes burned in the darkness. “Have finally reunited…” He stared deeper into the shadows and whispered— “Soon…” “Satin will rise again.”
