"I don’t blame my mother for the constant moving. In fact, I fully support it. It’s the only thing that keeps us safe, and if it protects my mother then I’ll do anything.

You see, we’re both shifters. Not normal shifters, like you would assume of wolves or even foxes. No, we’re special. Our breed is thought to be extinct, and in order to keep us alive, we’re going to keep it that way.

Alright, alright, I’ll give you what you want to know. My mother is a dragon shifter, so that makes me part dragon. Now, the other part? My father is, or was—I never met him either—a wolf, a lycan to be exact. So, that makes me a very unique, very sought after breed. There’s never been a dragon-wolf hybrid before. It wasn’t forced, so don’t get any twisted ideas. My parents were mates, with the bond and everything, but once my father figured out what kind of shifter my mother is, the power of greed took over and it was like there wasn’t a mate bond to begin with. My mother ran for her life, but not before she was with child. Me."

Follow Bren as she and her mother try to find their happy ending. Will they find their mates? Or will they remain in the cycle of running for their lives? Love will be tested, the world will be flipped upside down, and war could breakout. The question remains: can hope perservere?

Prologue
“Mama,” I called out, small arm reaching across the center console to grab her wrist. “Why are we moving again?”     “It wasn’t safe there anymore, sweetheart,” my mother answered while keeping her eyes on the road in front of her. Her long silver hair was pulled into a messy braid falling over her shoulder, and her skin seemed paler now. Was she scared?     “Why isn’t it safe here anymore?” I asked, looking outside the car like I’ll spot the danger running alongside the moving vehicle. “I liked it here.”     “I liked it here too, baby,” she soothed, sparing me a glance before concentrating on the road again. “Remember how I said we’d have to keep moving sometimes? Your safety is the most important thing to me.”     “But what’s following us?” I continue to question, understanding evading my seven year old's mind.      “I know it doesn’t make sense right now, Bren, but you’ll understand in due time.  For now, sleep,” she instructs, reaching over and putting her finger to my temple.  At her command my eyes started to get heavy and I felt myself drifting off to sleep, but not before I heard, “You are the first of your kind, so you must be protected at all times…”
