Chapter 22 Jacksonville, FL WE PULLED INTO the driveway around four and carried our bags into the house. The bags were empty, as we’d left everything in the cabin except the clothes we were wearing. We’d even left our shaving gear and toiletries in the cabin, bringing our shaving kits home empty. I went to the front porch and stared at the huge mound of mail that had been pushed through the mail slot in the front door. Carrying the mail to the den, I started to sort through it, and nine out of ten items landed in the wastebasket unopened. I opened and dealt with the important stuff, then went in search of Mike. He was sitting on the front porch with a sort of forlorn look about him. “What’s the matter?” I said. “I’m already missing our deck and our stream.” “We’ll go back soon enough
