Chapter 10. The Unforeseen Arrangement

308 Words
Anna's eyes slowly fluttered open, and she was met with the unfamiliar faces of two maids. They were dressed in crisp, black uniforms, and their eyes sparkled with excitement. "Jack!" Anna exclaimed, her voice hoarse from sleep. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her back onto the bed. The maids shouted in unison, "She's finally awake!" One of them rushed to Anna's side, helping her sit up. "Ma'am, you need to come with us. You must eat and get dressed. There's much to prepare for." Anna's mind reeled as she looked around the room. It was opulent, with lavish furnishings and expensive-looking artwork adorning the walls. But where was she? And why were these maids calling her "ma'am"? "What...what's going on?" Anna stammered. "Where am I?" The maids exchanged nervous glances before one of them spoke up. "You're in the estate, ma'am. You're going to marry the master next week." Anna's eyes widened in horror. "Wedding?!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the room. "What are you talking about? I don't remember anything about a wedding!" The maids looked at each other nervously before one of them spoke up. "You've been ill, ma'am. You've been asleep for days. But now that you're awake, we must prepare you for the wedding." Anna's mind reeled as she tried to process what was happening. She didn't remember anything about a wedding, and she certainly didn't remember agreeing to marry anyone. "I want to see your master," Anna demanded, her voice firm. "I want to see Alex." The maids exchanged nervous glances before one of them curtsied. "I'll go fetch him, ma'am." Anna's eyes narrowed as she watched the maid scurry out of the room. What was going on? And why did she have a feeling that her life was about to change forever?
