THE DAY I MET HIM
IN LOVE WITH AN OLDER MAN
A Love Story of Passion, Secrets and Forbidden Desires
CHAPTER ONE: THE DAY I MET HIM
My name is Blessing John Ene. I am twenty-five years old, and if anyone had told me that I would one day fall deeply in love with a man old enough to be my father, I would have laughed in their face.
I was never the type of girl who dreamed of marrying an older man. In fact, I used to judge ladies who dated men twice their age. I believed they were only interested in money, expensive gifts, and luxurious lifestyles.
I wanted something different.
I wanted a man who would love me genuinely, make me laugh, hold my hands when life became difficult, and choose me even when things were not easy.
I wanted a love story that would make people believe in true love.
But sometimes, life gives you exactly what you never planned for.
I was living in Lagos, working with a reputable media company as a marketing executive. I wasn't rich, but I was comfortable. I paid my bills, helped my family whenever I could, and enjoyed spending time with my best friend, Sandra.
Sandra was the complete opposite of me. She was outspoken, adventurous, and believed every problem could be solved by having a rich boyfriend.
According to her, love was beautiful, but money made it more beautiful.
I always laughed whenever she said that.
"Blessing, you need to stop looking for love in the wrong places," she would tell me. "A handsome, wealthy man is what you need."
And I would always reply, "I need a good man, not a walking ATM."
We would laugh and move on.
Little did I know that a wealthy man would soon walk into my life and turn everything upside down.
THE UNEXPECTED MEETING
It happened on a Thursday evening.
I had just finished a stressful day at work. My boss had given me several assignments, and I was already exhausted. To make matters worse, it started raining heavily just as I stepped out of the office building.
I stood under the hotel entrance beside the road, waiting for a taxi.
My phone battery was at two percent, and I was beginning to lose patience.
"God, why today?" I muttered, looking at the sky.
Just then, a black Range Rover slowly pulled up in front of me.
The window rolled down, revealing a man behind the steering wheel.
"Good evening, young lady. Are you waiting for someone?"
I looked at him.
For a moment, I forgot about the rain.
He was extremely handsome. His skin was smooth and well cared for, his grey beard was neatly trimmed, and his hair was slightly grey around the sides. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit with a white shirt underneath.
His wristwatch looked expensive, and his deep voice carried an unusual calmness.
He looked like a man who was used to getting whatever he wanted.
"Good evening, sir," I replied politely. "I'm waiting for a taxi."
He glanced at the rain.
"You're going to get soaked standing there. Where are you headed?"
"Victoria Island."
He smiled.
"That's on my way. I can drop you off."
I hesitated.
I wasn't comfortable entering a stranger's car, no matter how handsome he looked.
"Thank you, sir, but I'll manage."
He nodded, almost as if he expected my answer.
"Fair enough. My name is Richard Anderson, by the way."
He handed me his business card.
I collected it and glanced at the name.
Richard Anderson.
I looked up again.
"Nice to meet you, sir."
"The pleasure is mine."
He smiled before adding, "You can still change your mind about the ride."
I looked at the rain, then at my nearly dead phone.
After a few seconds, I finally opened the passenger door.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome. Please, make yourself comfortable."
I entered the vehicle and closed the door.
The interior was breathtaking. Everything looked expensive, from the leather seats to the entertainment system. A soft fragrance filled the car, and gentle music played in the background.
Richard adjusted his seatbelt and drove off.
"So, what should I call you?" he asked.
"Blessing."
"Beautiful name."
"Thank you."
"Are you from Lagos?"
"No, sir. My family is from Nigeria's southeast, but I've been living in Lagos for some time."
"Interesting. What do you do?"
"I'm a marketing executive with a media company."
He nodded approvingly.
"That's impressive. You must be hardworking."
"I try my best."
He smiled.
"Never stop trying. A young woman should always have something of her own. Never depend entirely on anyone to build your future."
I turned towards him.
That statement surprised me.
Most wealthy men I had encountered seemed interested in showing off their money, but Richard spoke differently.
"That's good advice," I said.
He chuckled.
"Experience teaches you many things."
We continued talking throughout the journey. He asked about my ambitions, my family, and the things I enjoyed doing.
Surprisingly, I felt comfortable around him.
When we finally arrived at my estate, he slowed down and stopped near the gate.
"Thank you so much for the ride," I said, reaching for my handbag.
"You're welcome, Blessing."
I opened the door, but before stepping out, he called my name.
"Blessing?"
I turned.
"Yes?"
"Would you mind if I invited you for coffee sometime? I enjoyed our conversation."
I smiled.
"Maybe, Mr Anderson."
He laughed softly.
"Richard. Please, call me Richard."
"Okay, Richard. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, beautiful."
I stepped out of the car and watched him drive away.
I looked at his business card again before slipping it into my handbag.
I couldn't explain why, but something about that man stayed in my mind.
Perhaps it was his voice.
Perhaps it was his confidence.
Or perhaps it was the way he looked at me when we spoke.
Whatever it was, I quickly dismissed the thought.
He was just a stranger who had helped me on a rainy evening.
Nothing more.
At least, that was what I believed.
THREE DAYS LATER
It was Sunday afternoon when I received a phone call from an unfamiliar number.
I was lying on my bed, scrolling through i********:, when my phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
"Good afternoon, Blessing."
I sat up immediately.
That voice.
I recognised it instantly.
"Richard?"
He laughed.
"I'm glad you remember me."
"Of course! Good afternoon. How are you?"
"I'm doing well. I was hoping to hear your voice again."
I smiled without realising it.
"That's nice of you."
"I was wondering if you would allow me to take you out for dinner this evening."
I became quiet for a moment.
Dinner?
With Richard?
I wasn't sure what to say.
"Don't worry," he added gently. "No pressure. Just dinner and good conversation."
I looked at the clock.
"Okay. That would be fine."
"Wonderful. I'll send you the address and arrange a driver to pick you up."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, sweetheart. Enjoy your afternoon."
When the call ended, I stared at my phone.
Then I smiled.
I couldn't believe I was actually looking forward to seeing him again.
But there was one thing I hadn't considered.
I didn't know how old he was.
And I certainly didn't know that the man I was about to have dinner with was one of the wealthiest and most influential businessmen in Lagos.
A man whose name commanded respect.
A man whose past was filled with secrets.
And a man whose daughter would eventually become my greatest enemy.
