Prologue
Under the moonlit sky and in the chilly breeze, two people stand hand in hand at the end of the pedestrian lane. What could they be doing?
Blushing, the girl asked the guy, 'Can we try this again?' She realized he was exactly her type after their date ended.
The cold wind sent shivers through their bodies and whipped strands of hair around, but the guy still remembered to reply, "Let's do that." as the guys felt the same with the girl, he also wanted to have another meeting with her.
The girl blushed even more and giggled cutely, and the guy couldn't help himself to smile because of how cute the girl is.
They are at the side of the road, inches away from them are cars passing at them. They are having their moment, the two are in love, even in a brief meeting.
Unbeknownst to them, trouble was looming. The truck driver had lost control of his brakes and was veering straight towards them.
"Get out of the way!" he shouted, but his voice was muffled by the closed windows of the truck, failing to reach the two ahead, so he used his light and horn to alert the two.
The girl notices the light of the truck bearing down on them, but she couldn't react quickly enough. She knew that in just moments, it would hit them and send their bodies flying.
"Ah—" the girl gasped as a sudden realization struck her. 'I should have picked a safer place to flirt,' she thought, just as she braced for the impact of the approaching truck.
She felt something push her but still, it made her thrown to the ground, which resulted in her hitting her head at it. Then, she lost conciousness, she doesn't know what happened after that.
...
"Aaaahhhhh!" a horrifying shout echoed across the room.
A girl jolted awake from a terrifying dream, panting and drenched in sweat. She clutched her chest as if expecting it to burst at any moment.
She found solace as a warm embrace enveloped her from behind, soothing her nerves.
"Sister..." came a calm voice, accompanied by a soft hand holding hers, it was her twin sister. Her sister rested her head against hers, even though she still felt groggy from being awakened by her sister's shouts.
"Did you have another nightmare?" Her sister held onto her tightly, refusing to let go.
"Zinnia..." she called out as she recognized the one that embraced her, "I thought my life had been taken away... I dreamed of being hit by a huge monster!" she felt terror as she reminisced about what she dreamed.
Zinnia pinched her sister's cheek, "Avellana, look! You're alive, it was only a dream." then let go.
It had been a daily occurrence for Avellana to have a nightmare every night, and it was only her twin sister that comforted her from it.
Avellana rubbed her stinging cheeks, despite the pain. She felt grateful for it, as it had jolted her awake from the terrors of the dream.
"You know, I was also with a man in my dreams... I was holding his hand and looking at him admirably. But, his face is a blur. "
"A monster and a man? Isn't that a bad omen? Or maybe..." Zinnia smiled teasingly at her sister, "The monster also loves you! Yie!" Zinnia said and acting giddy, that made Avellana flustered.
"Zinnia, Stop it." she held her sister and shaking it playfully.
The door creaked open, and a servant, Dahlia, peeked in at the two young misses who were wide awake. "Young misses, you must get enough sleep for your big day ahead," she said anxiously. It was already past midnight, and they couldn't afford to look tired, as it might diminish the interest of the two young men they were going to meet later.
Zinnia finally released her sister and returned to her side of the bed. If she didn't sleep soon, she feared Dahlia's predictions would come true.
"Dahlia, whether we're beautiful or not, those two young men will still join our family," Avellana retorted, leaping onto Zinnia's bed and playfully nudging her, prompting a groan from Zinnia at the weight.
"So, sister, let's skip sleep and go play outside," Avellana suggested. Everytime Avellana had a nighmare, after Zinnia comforted her sister about it, they eventually went outside and played, since it's hard to go back to sleep for Avellana.
Zinnia pushed Avellana back to her own side of the bed. "Out on this cold night? Not a chance," Zinnia disagreed, settling in. Soon enough, she drifted off to sleep, leaving Avellana with no choice but to do the same. They have a big day later since someone is going to visit them.
"Dahlia, you may go now," Avellana said.
"Goodnight, young misses," Dahlia bid them farewell before leaving.
With her sister now asleep, the world seemed dull around her. She needed to sleep as time passed, and the event drew nearer.
