I returned home, bursting with excitement, only to witness my husband’s infidelity firsthand.

The girl nestled in his arms was none other than my student, Yolanda.

He confronted me with a facade of righteousness. "You can’t have kids, can you? But don’t worry, Yolanda has kindly offered for you to be the child’s godmother. At least that way, you’ll have some claim to a kid. What more could you possibly want?"

What he didn't know was that I was already two months pregnant.

Chapter 1
I returned home, bursting with excitement, only to witness my husband’s infidelity firsthand. The girl nestled in his arms was none other than my student, Yolanda. He confronted me with a facade of righteousness. "You can’t have kids, can you? But don’t worry, Yolanda has kindly offered for you to be the child’s godmother. At least that way, you’ll have some claim to a kid. What more could you possibly want?" What he didn't know was that I was already two months pregnant. ***** The moment I stepped into the house, suspicion of his infidelity hit me. A woman's coat, unfamiliar and foreign, hung in the entryway, and a delicate girl's handbag sat on the table. I tossed the report from my prematurely-ended teacher training, along with the pregnancy test results, onto the table. In a daze, I made my way to the bedroom door, slightly ajar. Despite being mentally prepared, the sight of Fenton and a young woman lying in the marital bed I had so lovingly prepared was like a punch to the gut, my blood surging to my head. Fenton, bare-chested, was hurriedly pulling on his pants. The girl was curled up under the blanket I had carefully chosen, her face flushed. The moment she saw me, her expression turned fragile and pale. Perhaps her vulnerable state triggered a man’s protective instincts, as Fenton shielded her from my gaze, shooting me a look of discontent. He lit a cigarette, his tone casual as if nothing were amiss. "Don't freak her out. Weren't you supposed to be at training? Why are you back so early without a heads-up?" It seemed I now needed permission to enter my own home. I was stunned, my heart constricted, rendered speechless. My husband, my childhood love, had actually been unfaithful with one of my students. Unbelievable! Perhaps my expression was too grim, as an awkward flush crept onto Fenton's face. He defended himself, "Yolanda’s family is going through a tough time. Who are you trying to frighten with that grimace? Instead of standing there menacingly, you should go to the hospital and find out why you can't have kids." As he continued, his tone grew even more self-righteous. "Since you can't have kids, why can't I try with someone else? I've been compromising for so long, not taking any precautions. You should be grateful." Not a shred of remorse crossed his face, just blame aimed squarely at me. It was as if his embarrassment was all my fault. Before I could say a word, Yolanda reached out and clasped Fenton's hand, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, her voice soft and reluctant. "Fenton… maybe I should leave… You should explain to Liana." I let out a cold laugh, cutting in without mercy, "What is there to explain when you’re already sharing a bed?" Fenton's embarrassment vanished, replaced by a scowl filled with animosity. "What the hell are you talking about? Do you ever shut up? Apologize to Yolanda! Now!" He always took the side of others, never distinguishing right from wrong. Was I too accommodating, or did I truly hold no value in his eyes? "Fenton, it’s all good. Don’t hold it against Liana. I mean, she’s got that tough-as-nails rep with the students around the department. I'm sure she doesn't look down on us," Yolanda cooed, nestling into his arms, her shoulders quivering slightly, her tone intimate, dripping with pleading. This seemed to bolster Fenton’s ego. "I think she's just used to throwing her weight around in the department!" He shot me another glare. "Do you have any sense of ethics as a teacher? Is this how you treat your students? If you dare bully Yolanda in front of me, who knows what you do behind everyone’s back!" He got up and wrapped his arm around Yolanda, leading her out. As they passed, Yolanda deliberately shoulder-checked me, sending me sprawling to the floor, my lower back crashing into the nightstand. Fenton let out a mocking laugh. "There you go, putting on an act again. Let’s see how long you can keep this up! I'll take Yolanda home first. We’ve been married for a while, and I’m not going to make this hard for you. But tomorrow, you’re going to her class to make a public apology. You’ve caused her so much distress, an apology is the least you could do, right?"
