Elena looked terrified when I mentioned the hospital. And I couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Did anything happen at the hospital?
“How do you know about the hospital?” she asked, her voice barely audible. “Are you—,”
I didn’t let her finish. “My friend saw you and told me about it,” I replied even though I was tempted to tease her and find out why she was so worried. “Or is the hospital a secret?”
Elena let out a deep breath, her eyes mirroring her relief. “No, no,” she answered quickly. “My mom just doesn’t know that I went to the hospital.”
I folded my arms and fixed my gaze on her. “Did my Dad also go there with you?”
She nodded. “Yes, I asked him to take me there.”
And he agreed? I thought to myself.
He wouldn’t even accompany me to the
