Chapter 6 Elena Adams ~•~ My throat went dry and for a second I couldn’t move. I glanced at him but I removed my eyes immediately. He stood at the staircase like nothing had happened. Like he hadn’t been inside of me just a few hours ago. Now… he was looking at me like I was a stranger. He didn’t even flinch or act nervous for a second. It was as though he wasn’t surprised. “Damien,” my mom said warmly as she stood up to meet him. “You’re finally here.” I could see the excitement on her face and I knew that it would disappear instantly if she had the slightest idea of what had happened between us. Both of us remained silent. I took a deep breath to keep myself calm. “This is my daughter, Elena,” my mom continued, introducing us cheerfully. “I’ve been wanting both of you to meet each other for the longest time.” I smiled awkwardly. “Hey,” I muttered, more to myself than him. He took a few steps closer to me. “Elena… nice to meet you,” he said smoothly, extending his hand forward for a handshake. I hesitated for a moment before I took it. “Your mom has told me a lot of things about you?” What the hell was he doing? His touch sent a jolt of heat straight to my p***y, my walls clenching involuntarily as I remembered how deep he had been inside me just a few hours ago. “Y—yeah… I guess so.” The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. They didn’t even make any sense. “I’m sorry… I just wasn’t—.” My mom interrupted me before I could finish my sentence. Maybe she thought I wanted to talk about her previous marriages or something. But I was glad that she stopped me. “Let’s go to the dining room,” she said, gesturing to the dining room. “I made a delicious meal for Elena. She’s having a really tough time right now.” I hope she hadn’t told her husband about anything concerning my life. I was also curious to know the lot of things she had told him about me. I forced myself to stay steady as we walked over to the dining area. I wasn’t sure of where I would sit, so I waited until my mom pulled out a chair for me. My mom was such a sweetheart and I hated myself because I had betrayed her without even knowing. I didn’t even want to imagine how she would react if she found out that I had slept with her husband. “So just like I told you earlier, Elena is going to be staying with us until she gets back on her feet,” my mom said when we were all settled. “I hope that isn’t going to be a problem.” I wanted to scream and say that it was going to be a problem. But I couldn’t. Instead, I crossed my fingers, hoping that Damien would disagree and say he didn’t want me under his roof. But he smiled at her and reached out for her hand. “I already told you that your daughter can stay with us… you’re my wife and she’s family. My stepdaughter.” My breathing became hitched. He knew exactly what he was doing. How was he even so calm after what he had done? He knew how nervous I was, so he wanted to make the situation worse for me. As my eyes darted between both of them, I felt bad for my mom. She thought she had found love, but he was out there sleeping with other people. I could bet a million bucks that I wasn’t the only girl he had messed around with. And I hated that I found myself in such a messy situation. “Elena… Why are you quiet? Won’t you say anything?” My mom asked, her voice filled with concern. Before I could even say anything, Damien replied. “I’m sure she’s new to the environment and is trying to process everything. Maybe she’s shy.” The whole time he spoke, his eyes were fixed on me. I couldn’t hold his gaze, so I shifted my eyes to the food that had been placed in front of me. “Shy? Elena doesn’t get shy,” my mom laughed. And they continued to talk about me and laugh like I wasn’t sitting right in front of them. “Lily, this food is great,” Damien said, lifting her hand and giving her a soft kiss. “You really are a good cook.” She smiled. “Yes. I just did it for Elena.” With each passing second, the guilt gnawed at my insides like a physical blade. I ate my food, but it tasted bland in my mouth. I had completely lost my appetite. Every time his lips touched her hand, or her voice dropped into an affectionate tone, I felt like I was about to throw up. How could a person be two different people at once? The man from the hotel had been wild and reckless, but the man sitting across from me now was acting like the perfect husband who had never done anything bad since they had gotten married. “Elena, honey. Do you like your food?” My mom asked, sounding worried. “I made your favorite and you’ve barely touched it.” The pasta and roasted chicken looked great. It was actually my favorite, but the last thing I wanted to do at that moment was eat. I forced a smile. “I like the food, but I’m kind of full. I already ate before you picked me up.” That was a lie. After what had happened with Lucas, I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything. I didn’t even think about food. “Oh,” she muttered. “You can always have it later. I’ll ask the help to warm it up for you whenever you’re ready.” “Thank you, Mom.” “Feel at home, okay?” she added, smiling at me. “You don’t have to be shy or nervous. This is your house now too.” Home? The words landed like a stone in my chest. I’d rather call the depths of hell my home.
