Chapter 4
Elena Adams

When I woke up the next morning, he was gone. I sat upright on the bed and let out a loud yawn.
Then I looked around and saw that he had left a few dollar bills on the nightstand. My face instantly formed into a frown.
Why did he leave me money? Did he think I was a hooker? I felt really offended.
But I was surprised. He was acting like a typical billionaire who thought he had done me a favor by sleeping with me.
As the memories of the previous night came flooding back to my mind, my cheeks turned red. It was hot, and the flashbacks alone made me wet.
Too bad I wasn’t going to see him again.
While I was still thinking about everything, my phone buzzed. I reached for it and saw that it was Lydia calling me.
I answered immediately.
“Hey,” I said, biting my inner lip to stop myself from smiling. Even though she couldn’t see me, I didn’t want her to know how much the thoughts about the strange man made me blush.
“Elena!” Lydia squealed. “Tell me about everything, and do not leave out any details. Where are you? Have you gone back to your house? Is he still there?”
I laughed, running a hand through my hair. “Calm down, Lydia. I’m going to tell you about everything.”
She giggled. “I’m listening.”
I couldn’t help but wonder why she was so excited. Maybe everyone was tired of me being trapped with Lucas and his horrible family.
A few moments later, I was done telling Lydia about everything that happened.
“I’m so proud of you, Elena,” she said warmly. “After everything Lucas has put you through, you deserve a wild night like that. But… he really left money on the nightstand?”
I groaned, picking up the bills and staring at them like they had insulted me personally. “Yes, five hundred dollars. Like I’m some sort of escort. Who does that?”
Lydia burst out laughing. “Maybe he was just trying to be polite. But did he leave a note?”
I looked around for a while to check if I’d missed something. But there was no note. “Nothing. It’s just the money.”
“Wow,” Lydia replied.
There was a brief moment of silence.
Then I broke it. “But that was the best s*x I’d had in my entire life.”
She chuckled. “Of course, you’ve only ever slept with that scumbag of your husband.”
“Yeah… and most of the time, I felt pressured during s*x because I always thought about it leading to getting pregnant.”
Lydia sighed. “At least you know the truth now. I’m happy for you, Elena.”
I smiled. “I’m happy too.”
We talked for a while. And when the call was over, I had a quick shower, got dressed, and booked a cab that would take me back to the house.
On my way home, I called my lawyer and told him that I wanted to file for a divorce. The conversation was lengthy, but it was over by the time I got back to the house.
When I got inside, I saw Lucas in the living room. He stared at me in shock like he had just seen a ghost when his gaze landed on me.
“Where did you spend the night?” he demanded, standing up from the couch to face me.
“Is that the only thing you’re worried about?” I asked, my face hard with disdain.
“Yes… why didn’t you come back last night?” he continued, his eyes scanning through me from head to toe. “And why is your hair scattered?”
“That’s none of your business, Lucas,” I retorted. “I should be the one asking you questions. You have no right to question me.”
Lucas blinked. “What has gotten into you?” I didn’t miss the hint of disbelief in his voice. He was probably shocked that I was finally standing up to him and doing things that I wouldn’t normally do.
A bitter scoff escaped my lips. “You should be lucky I am not suing you and your entire family right now.”
He paused for a moment and then he laughed. “Sue us? On what grounds?”
I already had the conversation with him earlier, and he didn’t feel even an ounce of remorse about what he did.
So there was no use going back and forth with him anymore.
“You’ll hear from my lawyer soon.”
I was about to walk away, but he dragged me back, his grip tightening around my arm. “Lawyer? You really think you can sue my family?”
I exhaled. “I’m not going to waste my time doing that. Your lives are already miserable as it is,” I replied coldly. “I’m getting a divorce because I’m done with you.”
Lucas let go of my arm slowly.
“Divorce?” He sounded surprised.
“Yes, you heard me correctly.”
His jaw tightened. “So you spent the night outside, and now you want a divorce? You think that whoever you were with gives a f**k about you?”
My blood boiled intensely with rage.
But I forced myself to stay calm.
“Do I need to remind you of the multiple reasons why I shouldn’t stay married to you?” I asked, my voice steady.
Lucas' eyes narrowed. “You’re making a terrible mistake, Elena. You don’t have anything and you’ll be stranded if you try to leave me.”
“I won’t be stranded because it is my name that’s on the lease… you’ll be the one to move out of the house.”
Lucas laughed. “Oh, Elena. Is that what you really think?”
Something in his tone made my stomach drop.
“What are you talking about?” I demanded, my voice barely above a whisper.
“The house had been in my name for months now. You signed the papers, Elena. You just didn’t bother reading them. My name is on the documents. You’re the one who has to leave, sweetheart. Not me.”
My lips parted and I blinked. “What?”
Rage and disbelief crashed over me.
How could I let him blindside me like that?
