Aisha's heart was racing as she turned and ran. She didn't know where she was going, she just knew she had to get away from Ifeanyi. The city streets were crowded, but she didn't care. She weaved in and out of people, her eyes fixed on the ground.
She could hear Ifeanyi calling her name, his voice getting closer. "Aisha, wait! Let me explain!"
But she didn't want to hear it. She knew the truth now, and she couldn't trust him.
She ducked into a nearby alleyway, trying to catch her breath. The smell of trash and urine filled her nostrils, but she didn't care. She was safe, for now.
She pulled out her phone and texted Funmi, her fingers shaking. "Where are you? He's here."
Funmi's response was immediate. "I'm almost there, Aisha. Stay hidden."
Aisha nodded, even though Funmi couldn't see her. She was trying to stay calm, but it was hard. Ifeanyi was getting closer, she could feel it.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps, heavy and deliberate. Ifeanyi was coming for her.
Aisha panicked, running deeper into the alleyway. She stumbled, almost falling, but managed to catch herself. The walls seemed to be closing in on her, and she felt like she was going to suffocate.
She saw a door, a small metal door with a rusted handle. She tried it, and it swung open. She slipped inside, closing it behind her.
The room was dark, and it took a moment for her eyes to adjust. She was in some kind of storage room, filled with crates and boxes. The air was thick with dust, and she could hear the sound of rats scrying in the corners.
But she was safe, for now.
She heard Ifeanyi's voice, muffled by the door. "Aisha, I know you're in there. Come out, and let's talk."
Aisha shook her head, even though he couldn't see her. She was not going to fall for it. She was going to stay hidden, and wait for Funmi.
But as she listened, she realized that Ifeanyi was trying to get into the room. He was trying to get her.
Aisha's heart was racing, and she knew she had to get out of there, fast.
