Crystal “Devon.” I whispered his name because I could no longer see him, my eyes were streaming with tears and making my vision blurry. “Devon?” There was a note of pleading in my voice. “I’m here, Crystal. Right here.” His hand came back down on my head. smoothing back my hair in soft, gentle strokes. I closed my eyes. I didn’t know why he was being so kind to me all of a sudden, but I needed it. It soothed all my fears away just having his hand on me and his scent around me. “Why don’t you sleep a little and…” “No.” I didn’t let him finish. Fear flooded me. turning my blood into ice. “No, I can’t.” I didn’t know what scared me more. Staying awake as I tuned into some unfeeling unmoving creature or falling asleep and enever knowing whether I would wake up again. I didn’t want to die.
