CHAPTER 18: NO MORE PRETENCE

940 Words
“You need to act now…” barked the Channidae Official in a brazen manner. The soldiers were already on standby, and they already had their orders, which were to shoot anything that moved. With the General’s nod and a flick of the hand, the soldiers stormed Muhali’s cell and shot her, Cordell and Matthews. Matthews woke up alongside Cordell in a military hospital seemingly well. But for some reason Cordell was not waking up. He was told that himself and Cordell had been in a kind of coma for ten hours. He was also told that both he and Cordell had been placed under quarantine. There were doctors and nurses wearing biohazard suits hovering all around Cordell’s bed. The nurse that was attending to Matthews quickly called to the attention of one of the doctors that Matthews was awake. After prodding at him for some hours it was determined that Matthews was fine. Although he was waiting to be "debriefed" he knew that was just fancy wording for interrogated. But by how everyone was behaving, it seemed the higher ups were too preoccupied to care for him and that meant he could move around the base freely for the time being. Matthews however, refused to leave Cordell until he was told exactly what was wrong with him. No one would give Matthews a proper explanation of what was happening, until Monica the aide to the president, arrived. She was able to explain to him all the events that took placefrom the moment they were shot to the moment Matthews woke up. When he was shot, the alien girl they knew as Kariai was handed over to the Channidae. They had already prepared a transport pod which would also serve as a kind of prison and shield to protect themselves against her power. The Channidae then took Muhali and left earth. By this time Cordell and Matthew were taken to the infirmary to "recover" from the aftershock of the energy blasts-Matthews interpretation was to be studied and analyzed. On the Channidae Invader, from the moment Muhali entered, she was constantly being watched. She could feel their eyes, their uncertainty and a hint of fear. She liked their fear. She wanted them to be afraid of her. She opened her eyes softly. The first thing she noticed was that she was no longer wearing her body armor and her bracelet was gone. She was startled. She did not expect them to be able to remove her bracelet. But she quickly composed herself. She sat up and looked around to see what kind of prison they had designed in her honor. It was, by her standards, impressive. There were no panels on the wall, and it had no doors. The only way in or out was through the laser shield that was in front of her. There were hexagon shapes on the floor, on the walls and above her. The room was fairly dark, and it oozed with dark energy impulses. She was curious as to how they had managed to harness a dark energy source. It had the look and feel of the inside of a bee hive minus the color. Her skin was crawling at the feel of the dark energy surrounding her. But that was not all. The cage she was in appeared to be a prison inside another prison. She could still feel she was being watched, and she knew that she should not use her abilities in front of them. She just sat there staring at the entrance as if she was waiting for something. She showed no emotion and she made no sound. This action unnerved the Channidae Official. He had expected her to use her abilities in order that she try and free herself. He had been very impressed with himself up until this point. Her indifference was arousing his rage. He wanted her to have hope so that he could crush it. Muhali on the other hand was completely calm, she could feel things. She knew things and she knew what reaction her actions or lack thereof had provoked from the Official. Some hours after the Channidae’s departure all the computers and monitors on the military base crashed. Immediately after which the Channidae released a broadcast message to the people of earth: “ We wish to thank you for handing over to us your only hope for survival. As a reward for your cooperation, we shall make your destruction quick and painless as long as you do not fight back.” At that time, a group of unkown soldiers teleported into the base. They said nothing and tagged everyone and everything they could see. Before anyone even knew what was happening everyone at the base was teleported to another base in Alaska. When President Morris enquired, he discovered they had been sent by an anonymous politician who had certain ties with Muhali. The soldiers were also sent to deliver a message to the president. The message was that they were to protect Cordell and keep him alive or else Muhali would destroy them herself. As Monica was explaining all that to Matthew, the Channidae sent yet another broadcast message: “We are very disappointed in you President Morris. We thought we had an understanding with you. Give us the soldier, and we promise not to t*****e you before we eventually exterminate your kind from existence.” The message was being broadcast from the base where the humans had detained Muhali and her people. Even though the Channidae Commander did not specify which soldier he was talking about, everyone knew he was referring to Cordell.
