CHAPTER 19:NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS

Matthew turned around and looked at Cordell as he wondered why the Channidae wanted him. An hour passed and when the Channidae did not get a response from the humans they sent another broadcast message for all of earth to view: “Watch carefully as this is punishment for your non-compliance…” Alongside the Channidae Official there appeared a square-like room with what seemed like air vents on the floor and on the walls. Muhali was lying in the middle of the room facing the roof with no care in the world. “Welcome little princess. I am sure you are aware of the nature of the chamber you are in at the moment. For those of you that do not know, I sincerely hope the little princess awards me the opportunity to demonstrate. Now princess, tell me where the soldier is and there will be no suffering.” the Official said so nonchalantly as if he would keel over and die from boredom. “You are the one that reads minds Maname. Why don’t you tell me where he is” Muhali replied in the same tone. “I was really hoping for that response. I must say you do not disappoint. You see little filthy half-breed. I know your weakness and I have no shame whatsoever in exploiting that weakness.” The Channidae Official said this as he signalled to one of his aides. The aide then gently waved his hand above one of the panels in the command centre. Surges of a black-like current began to circulate all over the room through the vents and they continued to spread until they had completely engulfed Muhali. The Official was a braggart creature and he had put up holographic images of torturing Muhali for all the Earth to witness. He had devised that he would either t*****e Muhali until she told him what he wanted to know, or until the humans were scared enough to give Cordell up to him. Either way he would get what he wanted and still have the pleasure of testing Muhali’s limits. The humans shrieked with fear of what would become of them. Muhali was screaming with excruciating pain as the surges of dark energy coursed through her body. The Official enjoyed the sound of her screaming. He kept focused on every minute movement she made and every bead of sweat. He bent is head to the left and then to the right as her body contorted in different odd shapes and she writhed in agony. His eyes were full of loathing and perverse satisfaction. “Mmmh…” he moaned in satisfaction. During the intervals of the blasts of dark energy, Muhali was making small sounds. At first, the Official thought she was crying and he relished the thought of making her cry. But as the jolts of energy became stronger, the sounds became louder, and he realised she was not crying, she was laughing. "Is this some kind of trick?" he spat at Muhali. She did not respond she just kept laughing. "Answer me!" he boomed so loud that the entire ship felt the vibrations of his voice. Still she did not respond she just kept laughing. "You have the nerve to mock me? I hold your life in my hands." he asked in an enraged state. She stopped laughing and her amber eyes began to glow with her pureblood colour blue and she wore a smug expression on her face as she responded: “There it is…” The Commander looked at her with a blank and lost expression and he slightly shook his head in disbelief. “…your weakness Commander.” she added with a haughty tone of voice. Just then a small explosion emanating from the armoury was heard. There was much confusion as the soldiers scrambled to figure out who or what could’ve caused the explosion. Muhali stood up; she raised her hands above her head with her palms facing the roof. She clinched them in a fist and kept them that way for some seconds. She slowly opened up her hands, her palms facing the ground as she brought her hands down. And just like that, the surges of energy retreated back into the vents. She was weak, and her energy was almost depleted. She had exhausted large amounts of energy since the time she was on Thyatira and until the time she had been taken by the Channidae. When the tip of the surges had fully retreated back into the vents, Muhali fell to her knees and finally the rest of her body followed as she fell to the ground. She had not passed out though. Her body was suffering from the aftershocks of the dark energy, and she was unable to get back on her feet. The Official was filled with rage. He could not believe he was getting bested by a child. A worthless half-breed at that. And as he turned to The Commander of the Channidae Destroyer, he too looked rather dumbfounded. The Official pressed his control panel in an effort to track the point of origin of the intrusion of The Invader, but for some reason he could not. “…arrgh!” The Official barked out of fury and frustration. Muhali on the other hand lay on the floor of the cage with her body and hands in a crinkled position. The cage was guarded by multiple shiels on the inside and on the outside by a two dozen guards. Muhali’s vision was failing her but she could still see blurred images at the corner of her eyes. She saw the shield vanish as if it were opening for her to leave. She attempted to get up, but her body felt like a load she could not carry. Each time she attempted it was as if the aftershock of the dark energy had bound her in such a manner that she would not be able to escape. She saw the guards come in to attack her, but before they could even do anything they all dropped like rocks right in front of her. Behind them was a masked soldier and as he looked at her his eyes filled up with tears and anger. “What have they done to you?” he whispered to himself as he rushed over to where she was. He knelt down next to her and his hands could not be stilled as they were searching for a place on her body to touch. The masked soldier could still see the aftershock dark energy wrapped around her body like vines to a tree. “You should see the other guy?” “I saw, he looked absolutely stupefied...” replied the soldier. She forced herself to stand up after great difficulty. He opened up his hand and in it was her battle bracelet. “My prince, is that a joke?” asked Muhali as she was putting on her bracelet and her armour covered the body suit she was wearing. “It is a rather pathetic attempt at one. Although I have no idea what criteria it meets in order to make it amusing.” the soldier replied. The masked soldier bent down and dragged the unconscious soldiers, one at a time to the cell that had been holding Muhali. And then Muhali raised her hand toward the security console that was attached to the entrance of the cell in order to re-activate the shield. Muhali and the soldier knew they did not have a lot of time. At this point, the Official would have ordered the bulk of his guards to secure Muhali. Muhali and Skydas had shut down the security functionality of the Channidae Invader.
