She can't handle the sounds and takes off into the forest. Branches and leaves brush past her. The branches seem to grab at her; scratching and tearing at her clothes. She trips over the trunk, falling into the lake. She brings herself to her hands and knees; blood dripping onto the surface of the lake. She looks at her reflection; the image staring back is unfamiliar. She pounds her fists into the reflection, distorting the image. She buries her face in her hands as tears run down her cheeks. Not used to feeling such comfort, she hesitates. He holds her tight, not letting her go. She feels her pulse begin to slow, breath becomes shallow. She becomes weak, collapsing in his arms. He leans in, placing a gentle kiss upon her lips; pulling her last breath from her body. He cradles her body in his arms; walking over the lake, disappearing into the ever growing mist... ***I do not condone violence, substance abuse, or self harm. This writing is simply, a writing.
