Running I picked up my speed from a fast walk and began running. I started to weave in and out of the trees before me, grateful at the thinness of the trees in the forest where I was at the moment so I didn’t collide with them. Trying to run from the hot branded pain in my heart was all I could do. I passed a few people walking back down the mountain, who had wandered off the trail a little, and caught their stare as I ran past. I tried to change my pace to more of a jog and half smiled to let them know I was okay. I then pulled my cap down more so over my face and veered further off the trail to lose sight of more potential hikers. Maybe I could find it… I knew it wasn’t a dream.
