Chapter 1-Auspicious day
Rainie POV: The Blue Barn stood as RED MOON PACK's most renowned gathering point, frequented by the pack's werewolves for leisure. Upon the well-lit stage, my gaze landed on refined tables and chairs, the bar adorned with an array of exquisite wines. With a deliberate pace, I ascended the stage, the soft lights casting a delicate glow on my visage. Conversations around me abruptly ceased, and I felt countless eyes fixed on me. A hushed voice murmured, "Saliva." Anticipation gleamed in the attendees' eyes; this was where the most remarkable and mysterious singer, Saliva, took center stage. I graced them with a captivating smile, my fingertips brushing the microphone gently. With a gesture to the DJ, my mellifluous voice filled the air, "music." Today marked my 18th birthday, and earlier in the day, I had successfully awakened my inner wolf. This evening held great significance, as I intended to become mates with Dylan. Dylan, the beta of the red moon pack, and I had been dating for a while. Truthfully, we both eagerly awaited the day when I would finally embrace my wolf. And today was that auspicious day. As the song concluded, my performance ignited a chorus of cheers. As the resident singer, I couldn't decline the patrons' toasts. One drink followed another, a fog gradually descending upon my senses. I discreetly scanned the diverse faces below: some entranced, some greedy, some curious. My heart sank slowly, as he had yet to make an appearance. Still adorned with a subtle, dreamy smile, my thoughts had long since wandered away. Yesterday, he had inquired about my desired gift. I had candidly expressed that I only wanted him—an implication as clear as day. Bar owner Ben had already informed me I could leave early tonight, though I remained uncertain of when he would come to collect me. I sang another song, my cheeks now flushed like a sunset's hues. The weekend brought a surge of patrons, many raising their glasses in toasts. Despite my considerable alcohol tolerance, a slight intoxication was beginning to set in. My gaze roved over the patrons below, finally settling on the face I had been yearning for, nestled in a corner. He, too, had his gaze on me—intense and devoid of expression. Our eyes locked, and he squinted slightly, a faint smile tracing his lips. It was an ambiguity in his smile that I had never witnessed before. I found myself transfixed. Why did Dylan appear somewhat altered? Dispassionate yet tinged with a touch of levity... Recalling yesterday's promise, my cheeks flushed anew. Could it be... Shyly nibbling my lip, I then slowly blossomed a tender smile. I gestured towards him, my voice resonating through the bar's expanse, "For the upcoming song, 'Burning,' a tribute to the gentleman seated yonder..." Lowering my tone, I murmured softly, "Burning, for you." The implications spurred a fervent response. Many familiar faces recognized that I had never singled out a patron in such a manner. Bar owner Ben always watched over me. Once the singing concluded, I'd vanish like a sprite, evading inquisitive patrons' attempts to trace me. Despite the vibrant makeup, I stood upon the stage, a serene presence, akin to a blossoming flower—graceful and beautiful. With half-closed eyes, my gaze remained riveted on him, brimming with profound sentiment. The song had sung for most of its duration when he felt a flutter in his heart. Picking up the glass before him, he walked towards me with measured steps. As the song came to a halt, he reached me at just the right moment, handing me the glass and whispering softly, "Come with me." A peculiar scent of flowers engulfed me, a blend of laurel and chocolate that made my heart tremble within my chest. My wolf howled in my mind, rendering me powerless to control myself. I glanced at the glass, momentarily taken aback. "Weren't you advising me to drink less? Why..." I studied him closely, the familiar contours etching into my mind. I relaxed, downing the drink in a single gulp. He reached out; with a gentle pull, I alighted from the stage, my legs slightly unsteady, folding into his embrace. Tilting my head, I smiled, "You're being vexing, aren't you? Complaining that I'm not intoxicated enough?" He remained silent, his hand lightly pinching my cheek before encircling my waist. Leading me away, he guided me towards the exit. A car awaited us outside, the driver stepping out to open the back door. "Maple Hotel," he instructed. Guiding me into the back seat, I clung to his arm as soon as I settled in, nestling against his chest. His embrace radiated warmth and strength. Tilting my chin, he kissed me fervently, his lips conveying more than words ever could. His tongue slipped into my mouth, stealing my breath as I caught a faint taste of alcohol. I struggled to push him away, gasping for air as I looked at him with a mix of shyness and apprehension. "There are other people around, you can't act like this..." His gaze held a hint of curiosity. In the club, I always exuded an intense allure, using just a glance to ensnare souls. But privately, I was quite sensitive. During my performances, I wore heavy makeup, my face like a mask of powder, concealing my true self. I leaned my head gently on his shoulder, whispering, "Why aren't you speaking to me?" His reaction to my intimate gesture seemed slightly dissatisfied, yet he didn't push me away. A faint smile curved his lips. "You've had a bit too much to drink, take a breather." I complied without protest, closing my eyes. My long eyelashes cast a fan-like shadow on my face, illuminated now and then by passing streetlights, giving me a mysterious aura. He averted his gaze from me, though his fingers tightened their grip. My subtle fragrance mixed with the powder, like a delicate feather strumming the strings of his heart. I sensed his longing. Today, we could fulfill the Moon Goddess's plan and become each other's mate. Soon, we arrived at the hotel. He led me forward briskly, his strides quick. Towering over me, I had to jog to keep up. The alcohol made me slightly dizzy, making me ask him to slow down. He paid no mind, however. We entered the elevator, and as it ascended, I finally released a relieved breath. I lifted my hazy eyes, gazing at him. The nightclub's dim lights were replaced by the elevator's brightness. I could finally see him clearly, studying the fabric of his clothes. I blinked in surprise. "This outfit... I've never seen it before." He smiled without replying. The elevator ride was short. He led me out, striding along the corridor at a brisk pace. Despite the alcohol's effects, my senses hadn't abandoned me. I asked him to slow down, but he ignored my plea. We reached the room, and upon opening the door, the voice-activated lights illuminated the space. Despite my inebriation, the opulence of the decor startled me. Stepping back, puzzled, I looked at him. "You, why did you choose such an expensive place?" "How's it? Isn't it quite stylish here?" He pressed me against the wall, his head descending to kiss me passionately. Only when I was left breathless did he let go, his voice husky. "Go shower, quickly." His kiss obliterated my rationality, my heart racing. I dared not meet his gaze head-on. Turning away, I rushed into the adjacent bathroom. He undressed and used the other bathroom before stepping out onto the balcony, quietly smoking as he watched the night's radiant lights. After a short while, I rushed out wearing a bathrobe, quickly diving into the sheets and wrapping myself up tightly. My cascade of golden hair spread across the pillow, resembling a fully bloomed rose. He stubbed out his cigarette and walked deliberately towards the bed. He lifted my face, compelling me to meet his gaze, his smile carrying a mix of amusement and mystery. "Still feeling bashful?" Under his intense gaze, my face turned crimson, and a sense of unease crept into my heart. Suddenly catching a whiff of smoke, I inquired with confusion, "When did you start smoking?" He didn't answer, his eyes locked onto my face. A momentary flicker of astonishment flashed through his icy eyes. Having cleansed my makeup, my face was smooth as porcelain, my eyes akin to wellsprings of clarity that could swallow a person whole. Despite wearing just a bathrobe, my figure exuded grace and elegance, my aura as pure as morning dew. Anticipation had stretched his body taut, and he roughly tore open my bathrobe, pressing himself onto me. I glimpsed his firm muscles, as well as faint yet striking scars on his chest and abdomen. I froze for a second. I had gone swimming at the beach with Dylan before. Dylan possessed a slender build, and his skin bore no marks. Dylan didn't smoke, and Dylan never gazed at me with such detached indifference. Taken aback, a wave of fear surged within me. This man, he wasn't Dylan! "No!" I exclaimed, pushing against his shoulders with all my might. Beyond the fear, I suddenly realized that something was amiss with my wolf. She seemed to be on the verge of slipping away from me.
