Throughout the journey, I listened to my father, Peter, lamenting the scarcity of alphas as dedicated as he was, busy at such a young age that they needed medication. Thankfully, my father spared me further details after a couple of remarks. Even upon returning home, I remained immersed in my own gloom.
"Why did you lock the door? Your phone has been ringing for a while; didn't you hear?" Peter handed me the phone, and just as I was about to check the call log, it rang again. Glancing at the number, my fingers clenched the phone tightly.
