Chapter 4

Kira POV I kept my head low as I walked back to the packhouse, after last night run out. My chest still ached from the three rejections I passed through, and my wolf’s pain echoed deep in my soul. Every step felt heavier than the last, but I couldn’t afford to break down at this point. Not here. Not in front of them. The whispers followed me like a shadow. "Did you hear? Three rejections! She must’ve done something to deserve it or should we believe she's really cursed." "Maybe she’s cursed as they said. No wonder the alphas didn’t want her even close to himself." I clenched my fists, ignoring the sting of their words. If I reacted, they’d only get louder. **** I stepped inside the packhouse, the smell of cleaning supplies and sweat hitting my nose. The kitchen was empty, and I was grateful for the silence it has. I grabbed a mop, trying to busy my hands and drown out the storm in my mind. But just as I started, her voice cut through the quiet. “Well, if it isn’t the cursed omega with three rejections herself.” I froze, turning slowly to face Eldra. She leaned against the doorway, her green eyes glinting with malice. Her perfectly styled blonde hair and designer clothes screamed of privilege, a sharp contrast to my threadbare uniform. “I don’t want any trouble please,” I muttered, looking away to start my job. Eldra smirked, stepping closer. “Trouble? Oh, Kira, you are the trouble yourself.” “What are you talking about?” I asked, my grip tightening on the mop. She tilted her head, feigning innocence. “You really don’t know what am talking about, do you? Poor little Kira, so clueless, so lost in here own world. No wonder they all rejected you on same day. Isn't that record breaking for you.” “Stop,” I said, my voice shaking as the words created holes in my chest. “Why should I?” she taunted. “It’s not like you can do anything about it or even defend yourself. You’re nothing but an omega whose weak, pathetic and a cursed omega, at that.” “Cursed?” I echoed, my stomach twisting in anger. She laughed, the sound cold and sharp. “Oh, you haven’t heard the rumors that's moving around the pack? They’re saying your bloodline is tainted. That anyone who mates with you will face ruin.” “That’s not true, That's a real lie,” I snapped, my voice louder than I intended it to be. I must defend my family members and everyone that is in it. Eldra raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Oh, sweetie, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. All that matters is what they believe and call the truth. And thanks to me, they believe you’re dangerous and also a witch from that dark forest.” My heart pounded in my chest. “Why are you doing this to me, why are you defaming me?” “Because I can do whatever I want at anytime I do,” she said simply, stepping closer. “You don’t belong here, Kira. You never have and you will never will. And I’ll make sure you never rise above your place.” The door creaked open behind us, and Eldra’s gaze darted toward the hallway. Her expression shifted, a flicker of something cold and calculating flashing across her face. I turned, my heart skipping a beat as I recognized the voices coming from the other room. “She’s not fit to be part of this pack,” someone whispered. “I heard Eldra say she’s tied to some kind of prophecy,” another replied. Prophecy? My blood turned cold. What were they talking about? “Shh,” Eldra hissed, pushing past me. “Stay here, omega. This doesn’t concern you.” The moment she disappeared, I crept toward the hallway, my bare feet silent against the wooden floor. The voices grew louder as I approached the study. “…the prophecy says the cursed one will bring chaos to the packs,” Eldra was saying. “And that cursed one is Kira. We can’t let her stay here.” “What do you suggest?” someone else asked. “Leave that to me,” Eldra replied. “She won’t be a problem for much longer.” My blood ran cold. “Are you sure it’s her?” the voice continued. “The cursed bloodline, the mark—does she have it?” “She will,” Eldra said, her tone dripping with certainty. “And when it appears, we’ll know for sure.” I stumbled back, my heart racing. A mark? A prophecy? What were they planning? I didn’t have time to think. The floor creaked beneath my foot, and the voices stopped. “Who’s there?” Eldra barked. I turned and bolted down the hallway, my pulse thundering in my ears. I didn’t stop until I was out the back door, the cold night air biting at my skin. I leaned against a tree, struggling to catch my breath. Just as I thought I was safe, a sharp pain shot through my shoulder, and I looked down to see a glowing mark burning into my skin. The mark Eldra had mentioned. “What the hell is happening to me?”
