Chapter 3

Kira POV I stood in the center of the dining hall, trying to keep my breathing steady and whole body active as expected of myself. The air around was thick with the scent of roasted meat and woodsmoke, but it did nothing to calm the nausea twisting my stomach. The whispers around me grew louder and stronger, the mocking laughs sharper, as if they knew what was about to happen. And maybe they did. “Move it, Kira,” Eldra sneered as she shoved past me, her perfect green eyes scanning the room for Rylan. “Ugh, you’re always in the way of everything good.” I clenched my fists but bit back a retort. Talking back wouldn’t end well for me instead may lead to my death. “Kira!” The commanding voice sent a chill down my spine. Slowly, I turned to see Rylan standing at the head of the room, his silver eyes locked onto me. He looked every bit the Alpha he was destined to be, tall, broad-shouldered, with an aura of power that made others bow in his presence. I bowed my head automatically, but before I could respond, he snapped, “Come here. Now.” The room fell silent and so hot for me, all eyes on me. My heart pounded as I shuffled forward, my hands trembling at my sides. “Yes, Alpha?” I asked quietly, keeping my gaze fixed on the floor. “Look at me,” he demanded, with a commanding tone. I obeyed without double words, lifting my eyes to meet his. The second I did, my wolf stirred inside me, her voice ringing in my head. Mate. He’s our mate. My heart skipped a beat. No. It couldn’t be. It can never be. I'm a slave his a King, how's that possible. “Rylan,” I whispered, my voice shaky. “You’re...” he made my words immediately hanging at this point “Don’t try,” he interrupted coldly, his eyes hard. “Don’t say it.” “But you’re my mate,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, keeping others around in shock. The crowd erupted into murmurs, shocked gasps and whispers filling the room. “I reject you to be my mate,” Rylan said, his voice cutting through the noise like a blade. I stumbled back as if he’d slapped me, my wolf howling in agony. “W-what?” “You heard me perfectly well,” he said, his tone dripping with disdain and anger. “An omega as a mate? It’s pathetic. It useless for that to even happen. You’re pathetic. You're cursed” Laughter rippled through the crowd, and I felt like I was drowning in my own world. “Rylan,” I tried again, my voice breaking. “You can’t mean those words or yours.” “I do mean every single of them,” he said simply, turning his back on me. “Find someone else to torment with your weakness.” Before I could catch my breath, another voice spoke up. “Poor little omega,” Leo drawled from the corner of the room. “Guess what, Kira? I’m your mate too.” My head snapped toward him, disbelief written all over my face. “No, that’s… that’s impossible.” “Oh, it’s possible,” he said with a smirk on his face. “But let me save you the trouble and happiness.” He stepped closer, his blue eyes gleaming with cruelty. “I reject you too as my Mate.” Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. “ But why?” “Because you’re weak and also a cursed omega,” he said, his voice like poison. “You’d never survive by my side, and I don’t want to be dragged down.unti the dirt all in the name of accepting an Omega as a mate” The crowd roared with laughter again, and I felt my knees wobble. “Enough of all this,” a deep voice rumbled from behind me. I turned to see Dax, his dark eyes fixed on me. For a moment, hope flared in my chest. He’d been kind to me before, hadn’t he? Surely he wouldn’t even dare. “You’re my mate too, aren’t you?” I asked, my voice barely audible, with tears forming in the corners of my eyes. He hesitated, and for a second, I thought he might stand up for me. But then he said the words that shattered me. “I reject you, Kira.” “No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “Not you too.” “I have my reasons for doing this Kira” he said, his tone flat. “This isn’t about you nor anyone.” “It is all about me!” I cried, my voice cracking up. “It’s everything about me! What did I do to deserve all of this that's happening?” “You were born weak and cursed,” Rylan said, his voice cold and final. “That’s all I can say to you.” " But... Dax...." He interrupted my words at once. " There's nothing I can do, Kira, have rejected you as my mate and lover, my position is important." I couldn’t breathe anymore. My chest felt tight already, my wolf’s cries echoing in my head. The room spun, and I stumbled back, desperate to escape their cruel gazes. “Look at her,” Eldra said, her laughter cutting through the air band making me more anger. “Three rejections in one night. That must be a record no one can break.” The crowd laughed harder, their voices blurring together until they were nothing but noise to my ears and also mockery to my soul. I turned and ran, the tears I’d been holding back streaming down my face like a stream. My wolf whimpered in pain, her anguish mirroring my own. My stomach twist as if it was about to burst into my piece. My wolf crying out and myself crying much better. As I fled into the darkness of the night, the wind carried a strange scent—metallic and sharp. Blood. My steps faltered, and a chilling growl echoed through the trees. I wasn’t alone, or was I? Was I being watched or was another rejection up ahead for myself?
